Ellie poolside with coach Billy Pye
She took the pool by storm to take gold in both the 100 and 400m freestyle swimming events and all eyes are once again on her in London.
This time around the main rival for our Sixth-form superstar is 42-year-old Mirjam de Koning but despite the pressure and nerves Ellie is determined to give her best performance to date, but insists her focus is not medals,
“My biggest disappointment is if I don’t swim the best I can. My aim in London is not medals.”
To match her achievements four years ago where she was the youngest athlete in all competitions would be cement her place in history as a paralympic legend and though she will be hotly tipped she’s keeping her eyes on any young pretenders,
“I was an unknown 13-year-old in 2008. There could be another unknown 13-year-old in 2012 so it’s important to keep improving.”
Since Bejing Ellie has won ten gold world championship titles and if she can maintain that form she has nothing to worry about.
