TRENDY TREND: PATTERNED PANTS

It's impossible to ignore the abundance of patterned pantaloons that graced the major resort and spring collections. So in true xoJane spirit, I adorned Madeline in some Prada and we all fell for this trendy trend even more.

When I first saw the Prada Resort 2012 collection, my heart started beating faster and I knew it was going to be major. I just HAD to get one of my girls in one of the brilliant new looks.

Miuccia is the queen of quirk, and always sends the fashion set in a tizzy every season with her genius designs. The retro-inspired resort 2012 collection winked at the kind of iconic femininity that I love to see.

While the focus here is the pants, Madeline LOVED the chic polka-dot blouse and the adorable flower-patch purse.

"This outfit is so comfortable but simultaneously so proper that i just feel like I'm going to picnic underneath the Eiffel Tower, followed by an afternoon of gallery hopping in the Marais!" We all agreed.

Every season, major trends surface and get picked up by the mainstream, then trickle down to the streets. And sometimes it's even the other way around -- the designers are inspired by the streets and they reinterpret those styles their way (like grunge -- Marc Jacobs -- and punk -- Vivienne Westwood). While some trends are more elusive than others, other times (like this instance) you see print pants EVERYWHERE and boom, a trend is born.

Here are a few of my favorites:

While this print overload is all very amazing editorially-speaking, it can be tricky to actually wear. You know, in the REAL world. My suggestion? Keep it simple on top and wear heels (well, that's a given -- you should always wear heels).

Remember, the right pair of shoes can eliminate all possibilities of frump and even the hint of a pajama reference, because yes, it could go there. I scoured the world wide web to present you with some amazing options, so pick your perfect pair and tell me below how you would wear them (or why you would never dare)!
