4 Ways To Accentuate Your Cupid's Bow With Color

Everyone knows a little luminizer works wonders to emphasize your Cupid's bow and make your lips look more shapely. But I recently went in search (mostly via Tumblr) of other, more creative ways to emphasize this illustrious part of my mouth.

One of the looks that I needed to try instantly was this light pink, glossy lip with a gold lip line from Prada's 2008 S/S show. I fooled around with three other ideas, too.

1. Gold & Glossy

Folding in a similar ombré look that I also ran across on Tumblr, I used Dior Addict Lipstick in Charmante, which is a soft pink with a hint of coral. Then I used NP Set Lip Gloss in sheer pink Hawaii. To line my Cupid’s bow, I grabbed Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear Waterproof in gold Girl’s Night Out.

I really love the results. This enhanced my lips in a very subtle way, and it gives a typically plain lip look a little more power and interest. Side note: using a waterproof eye pencil for lip liner was amazing. It made the color last really long, even after I drank a cup of coffee and then a glass of water.

2. Holiday Vibes

Here’s where this became even more fun. I decided to take one of my favorite reds, Julie Hewett Coco Noir (this collection of reds also has a few of Mindy Kaling’s favorites), and ombré-lined my lip with the same gold Sephora pencil. The gold accentuated the vibrancy and depth of the lip color, as well as the shape of my upper lip. I think this would also be a fun look for holiday parties.

3. The Pointy Cupid's Bow

Wanting to reshape my Cupid’s bow into more of an unnatural pointed look, I used a combination of silver and purple. First I used my new favorite purple, Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lip Color in Persistence, just a wash of that color. Then I used YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in Pourpre Preview to give my lips more shine and depth, and to make the silver liner less obviously sparkly. Then I ombré-lined my lip with Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in Silver, a shimmering frosty silver.

4. Everyday Wear

The lipstick I have been wearing almost every day is Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lip Color in the brown shade Crazy for Coffee. I decided to pair that with Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear Waterproof in Strawberry Macaroon. It has a rosy gold hue with a natural pinkish lip undertone. For this look I just lined the V of my Cupid’s bow, just for a little highlighting, which really seemed to make my lips pop.
