Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
I haven't really been in the mood to wear makeup lately. Most days, I'm too tired, busy, or stressed out, so I either do a natural makeup look or skip it entirely.
That doesn't make for an interesting COTW topic, though.
Instead of throwing up a makeup-free selfie, I forced myself to look on Pinterest for some fun makeup inspiration. I found this pretty image that I'd pinned to my "Beauty" board a couple weeks go, and decided to try recreating it myself.
To be honest, it was kind of hard and took up a lot of time and it wasn't quite as good as the original. (Sadly, I don't have Tamara's eyeshadow blending skills.) That said, it took my mind off things and de-stressed me a lot. By the end of it, I was having a blast taking these pictures while listening to Hailee Steinfeld's catchy hit song about masturbation.
Sometimes it's worth it to take the time to break yourself out of your everyday rut. Experiment with fun color combinations and take selfies at odd angles. It's a refreshing change of pace from the flattering but boring "natural" beauty look.
Now it's time for your Comments of the Week!
1. "Lipstick Mermaid" has a dental health reminder for us all:
I'm a trainee dentist and whilst you seem to have a good thing going (the key with oral hygiene is regularity and consistency!) I would definitely recommend you use a fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash at least once a day - the fluoride helps to strengthen and harden the enamel which in turn should help prevent staining too (softer enamel stains more easily). Maybe use your trusty charcoal powder once in the morning for shiny white teeth through the day, and a regular fluoride toothpaste before you sleep to help remineralise your teeth at night (especially at night since we produce less saliva when we sleep and our teeth are more prone to enamel loss and decay).
2. This happens to me too when I try to blend eyeshadow, so I sympathize with you "dijonesque." Sigh.
If I use more than 3 colors I always end up with a lovely mud effect.
3. "nowlo" has a great product repurposing trick:
I've successfully used primer (Bare Escentuals Prime Time) that was making me breakout to revive a dried-out gel eyeliner (MAC Fluidline). Mix a drop or two or the primer into the eyeliner and it'll be creamy and workable again with no effect on pigmentation or wear. I think this works best with silicone-based primers. I think a water-based one probably wouldn't work.
4. Thanks to "Lee Griffo" for this gel manicure recommendation that I now need to try:
I was using real gel sets, had the light and everything, but it tore my nails up. My new miracle is OPI Nail Envy, with the new Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy system. Two coats of OPI, three THIN coats of color, then the top coat. It stays until I take it off (easy with regular remover) or it grows out! Seriously a revelation for my thin, peeling nails. They are long and gorgeous for the first time ever. My suspicion is the non-curing technology has improved and multiple brands have figured this out.
5. "EmC" has a pretty good beauty hack:
I spray my wet eyeliner brush with setting spray* before dipping it into eyeshadow and using it as liner. It makes it last all day!! (*NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray)
