I've always been kind of obsessed with Kirsten Dunst. Being a North American girl of my age, and with my personality, I obviously fell in love with "The Virgin Suicides" when it was released over 10 years ago. I totally wanted to be a cheerleader after "Bring It On." And like everyone else I wanted to eat every macaron in sight after watching "Marie-Antoinette." I'm a walking cliché, ok? But Kiki (yes, I refer to her by a nickname probably only reserved for close friends and family) has always had great style, made interesting choices with her roles and just seems like a cool lady.
Yesterday at the Cannes film festival in the South of France, Miss Dunst swept up the Best Actress award for her role in "Melancholia" and looked on point as usual with a tousled pulled-back ponytail, rosy-red lips and subtly lined eyes. It'd be a great look for any sort of fancy event you've got coming up where you want to look classy but not stuffy. Read on for details on how to get the look.
Clockwise from top right: Stila's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer in 01 (sephora.com), Almay's Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($5, target.com) , NYC's Smooch Proof Lip Stain in Rock On Ruby ($4.99, drugstores), Dior's 1 Couleur Powder Mono Eyeshadow in Golden Spotlight ($28.50, dior.com), and Joe Fresh's Eyeshadow in Black ($4, currently only available in Canada)
I started with a base of Stila's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer to even out my skintone and get a bit of glowiness. Then I applied the Dior shadow all over my lid and in the inner corners of my eyes. This stuff is so sparkly and shimmery, the prettiest gold. It reminds me of confetti.
Next I smudged the Joe Fresh Eyeshadow in Black along my lashline and made sure to blend really well. Since the Joe Fresh eyeshadow is only available to Canadians right now, I'd recommend Sephora's Colorful Mono Eyeshadow in Must Have 06 ($12, sephora.com), which is also a matte black. I followed up with a subtle line of Almay's Liquid Eyeliner in my lashline for definition. Use your favourite mascara for a complete eye look.
For the lips, I chose NYC's Smooch Proof Lip Stain in Rock On Ruby. It's a bright red that goes on super-pigmented and lasts for hours. It also smells like fruit punch. And I really like how precise and pointy the marker-tip applicator is, so you can draw on your lip colour perfectly.
To get Kirsten's hair, I let my hair air-dry naturally with a bit of texture spray in it to give it wave. Once dry, I scrunched Trésemme's 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse ($5.49, drugstore.com) from my roots to the ends. Pulling back the top layers and my bangs, I twisted the pieces a bit and then pinned at the crown. Gathering the rest of my hair, but leaving a few loose pieces by the ears, I pulled it back into a ponytail and secured under the pins. My hair is obviously a jillion inches longer than Kirsten's, but it just goes to show this style will work on almost any length.
So, how super-easy was that? Are you into the look or not? Which celebrity styles do you wanna see on here? Let me know! I am here to help you with my moderate, self-taught skills! And Kirsten, if you're reading this, let's be BFFs.
