When Vicki Hogarth finished her Master’s degree in English literature at McGill University in 2003, she took her diploma straight to the head office of the then newly founded Canadian magazine, Strut (created by some of the minds responsible for Vice magazine, which originated in the Babylon that is Montreal, if you didn’t know), and demanded an interview with the editor, despite having no industry experience whatsoever. Sometimes being a total eccentric works. It wasn’t long before she was interviewing people like Justin Timberlake in the penthouse suite of the infamous Chateau Marmont, sipping tea with Keira Knightley and the Toronto Film Fest and going head-to-head with Kanye West in battle of the egos, as Strut’s Senior Editor. When the magazine finally folded in 2008, she worked as an editor for various other Canadian media outlets you’ve probably never heard of, before embarking on a full-time freelance career for a wide range of publications, from Reader’s Digest to Huffington Post. Vicki is currently working on her first novel, based on her former life as a raging alcoholic celebrity journalist. Yeah, it’s been done, but this one will be totally different!
