career advice, WWJD

Here is the first installment of WWJD. When I gave you my phone number in the last open thread and asked you to please indulge my LOVE of helping by texting me your problems to help solve, you did beautifully!

I woke up the next morning to 258 great questions. Some started sweetly with "I hope I'm not waking you up, Jane" (don't worry -- I turn my ringer off when I go to sleep). And some required such long and equally-confessional-on-my-end answers that Olivia had to download a (shitty) app on my phone to capture my text back to you in one screenshot for this column.

Your texts (and about 75 calls -- Leave voicemails! I changed my mind! You were so sweet to not leave them as I asked, but I want to hear your voices!) keep on coming in. Eugenia found me the other day frozen mid-step on my way into the office kitchen, late for a meeting, because I was singularly focused on responding to one of you whose issue was time-sensitive.

So I am starting by showing you this one and I want to invite you all to disagree with my advice or say whatever else related (or, truly, not) that any of this inspires you to say here.

This one is work-related, but I will be showing you many more that have to do with every dilemma you can possibly imagine. And if you want my advice on anything at all, just text me your question -- again my number is 917-239-2891 -- and I'll answer as quickly as I can.

I can't wait to hear that sweet little chirp telling me you wrote.
