Would I have to start planning outfits around the tattoo like I plan for weather?
The last two weeks have been crazy busy work-wise, with my yearly review at work taking up a lot of my time and efforts. That's meant that I haven't had much time to come on here and spew my gibberish at you as often as I'd like. I've felt a little distant and distracted.
Appraisals are horrible things. You know they're approaching, so you start making lists of all the things you said you'd do in the last one and then slowly and surely realise you haven't actually got round to implementing any yet. The cold sweats start a week before, when you have to start compiling your assessment and give yourself marks out of 10 for things like "punctuality" (10/10ish) and "drive" (a strong 6-7/10...probably) and write down your goals for the coming 12 months.
Even though I do really enjoy my job and have a great relationship with my boss, there's always that stupid rising fear that they may turn around and tell you that actually, you're pretty crap, and that you do a rubbish job.
Today, though, marks the end of the yearly "SHIT, AM I GOING TO LOSE MY JOB" panic, and now I'm that I'm confident that I'm not getting the old heave-ho I feel I can share with you the things that have given me all the happy times this week. YAY!
#xostyletrial on Instagram
Firstly, I have been absolutely loving all the photos over on #xostyletrial on Instagram -- those who don't know about this can catch up HERE -- at my last count there were nearly 200 photos using the hashtag, and boy, are you lot some superstyling darlings.
I love popping online in the morning before I leave for work and checking out all the cool, inspiring outfits you've been putting together -- my personal favourites so far have to be Kaleidescop3's awesome pink hair and blue shirt combo for her exams, Arcticchar_'s brilliant Stormtrooper tee and I am still massively in awe of Lilbroussie's rainbow dress. I just can't stop going back and revisiting it. SO GOOD.
I've also got some serious tat envy -- in particular Velvetlilylady's morse code design. WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Spill!
If you haven't already, get posting your pics with the hashtag #xostyletrial so I can perv over you.
Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in "Peach On The Beach"
I love me a good crayon type lippie. I love how it feels like playing dress-up with felt tip pens and not really like real grown up make up (which I also love, but still, CRAYONS!). I love my Chubby Sticks, I love my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable and now I love this, the Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayon.
The shade I am most enamoured with is "Peach on The Beach," which is a deceptively bright pinky-peach, which really pops on all skin tones. It stays on like a motherfucker too, I have had two crumpets and a packet of Crispy Bacon Wheat Crunchies and three pints of water and it's still clinging on for dear life. BUY IT. I'm too exhausted this week to be subtle.
Melody's Echo Chamber
I actually left the house mid-week this week (I know!! I'm so edgy) and went to see some live music up in London which I never do because a) I'm lazy, b) I can never be bothered, c) I'm lazy and d) I love my sofa too much. It's a real shame I'm so lazy and stuck in my ways, because I actually had a really good time. I even bought some Pick and Mix! Although it was FOUR POUNDS, which, for the record, is FUCKING EXTORTIONATE, HAMMERSMITH APOLLO.
We went to see Tame Impala -- who I LOVE -- and the support band the Parisian "dream-pop psychedelic rock project" Melody's Echo Chamber. I read about them on Wikipedia before we got there and though their bio sounded massively pretentious and probably really wanky (nothing like judging a band by its Wiki write-up), they were really, really great. I downloaded the album the next day and have played the shit out of it. It's lovely and dreamy and Melody Prochet's vocals are what summer in the heat sounds like. Hazy, gorgeous, trippy.
This is my favourite song, for your listening pleasure.
I got sent a sample of this ELd'O perfume during a perfume swap with a friend, and I absolutely love it. I wasn't sure what to expect from the brand that famously bought us the bottled scent of spunk, breast milk and blood (Secretions Magnifique, should you wish to Google it) but it's really gorgeous.
The top notes of bergamot, lemon, pink pepper and ylang-ylang mellow out to a warm, powdery, iris, coconut and vanilla base. It's very delicate and feminine and I will definitely be buying a full bottle when I've got as much out of this sample as I can (cheapskate). I keep sniffing my wrists. Delicious.
So these are the things that have been keeping me sane this week, along with a few of my Nan's cheese scones (I think you call them biscuits? Which you call cookies? God, it's so confusing.).
What are you thankful for this week? And what are you doing this weekend? I'm buying some fish for my new fishtank which I am BEYOND EXCITED about, I've turned into a total fish bore. HAPPY WEEKEND, LOVELIES!
