In case you couldn't gather from my last Satan post, I really like Halloween. That said , I never actually get it together to come up with a cute, original costume in time for the holiday.

This year, I sort of wanted to do a couples costume with my boyfriend, but his fancy mustache is sort of limiting in the costume department. Basically we can be a cowboy and a cowgirl, Snidely Wiplash and a damsel in distress, or, I realized too late, the epitome of romance, Morticia and Gomez.

Once I dyed my hair red, I started thinking about redhead costumes. Initially, I was planning to be Peg Bundy, but considering I already own all the elements for this look and often bouff my hair, I'm afraid people wouldn't really even know I was in costume, you know?

So I settled on Daphne from Scooby Doo, for which I ordered a purple dress and a lime green scarf. I already have a purple headband and the pink tights.

I'm hoping it will still read without having the "real" Daphne long-sleeved purple dress with the stripes. But my real stroke of genius came when I thought of the perfect costume for my boyfriend.

For those of you who aren't familiar with "Manos: Hands of Fate," which will probably include everyone at any party we go to, it's a terrible B-movie horror film popularized by Mystery Science Theater 3000. And if you don't know about Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), go back and read Lesley's wonderful piece about the cult TV show.

Here's the character, known only as "The Master:"

And my boyfriend's rendition of it:

Complete with this tag inside the mom-sewn costume:

It's my greatest Halloween triumph, and it's for somebody else.

Yesterday, we went to a Horror Convention in New Jersey and random dudes spent the whole day asking to take pictures of/with my boyfriend while I stood by subtly reflecting light as his moon.

I did find this Halloween-print dress, though, which I intend to wear all year long.

Someday my perfect costume will come.

What about you? Are you dressing up this year? What's your greatest Halloween costume triumph? Have you ever done a couple's costume? Leave pictures!
