A good pair of frames tells the world that you came to f*ck shit up, but can still play nice when you take them off.
It's coat-buying season. A glorious yet overwhelming time. SO many coats, so little time and money.
Not to worry because I found some great ones for you (and me) that cover all the major trends of the season that we saw on the runways for Fall/Winter 2013 and the staples: oversized, colorful, puffer, trench and parka. And most of them are really affordable.
This is the coat I got last year from Mackage. I think it's the best one I've ever owned and if you have some cash to spend, I HIGHLY recommend anything from this company. They are so well-made, crazy warm, and really stylish, which isn't always easy to come by. And it fits my boobs and broad ass-shoulders! HOORAY!!!
The oversized coat may be my favorite trend of the season. I'm obsessed with this blue-and-black version on the Gucci runway. I will never, ever be able to afford it, or any other piece of clothing that costs almost $4,000. But it is pretty to look at and I wanted to share it with you.
However there are tons of other options out in the stores and online. Basically this look is like wearing your dad's overcoat. Hell, maybe you should just steal your dad's overcoat. If not, a few other choices:
Another big outerwear trend on the runways was color, especially pink. I am NOT usually one for pink, but something appeals to me about this trend, in some sort of Catherine Deneuve-y way. But just in case you're never, ever, ever wearing pink, color can still be your thing this winter.
The puffy coat is a winter staple that will never go out of style. It's basically mandatory for all of us who have to schlep around New York City in the grossest and slushiest of wintry mixes from December to March. I always struggle to find one that makes me look like I still have some shape, which is why I'm a fan of the belt.
Youcan never go wrong with a trench silhouette whether it's double breasted and classic or groovier like this blanket trench below.
I will never not love a parka. It goes with my slouchy, casual aesthetic. I only wish I could buy a coat for my every single mood.

What's your favorite coat style? Do you have multiples in your closet or do you invest in just one and wear the heck out of it?
