Obviously, "Lost" is not on this list.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a reporter in want of continued employment must ask all interview subjects if they’re feminists. Two of our favorite ladies, Anjelica Huston and Lauren Hutton, are evidently aware of this — and they think it’s all a little bit silly, really.
For the latest Violet Grey cover shoot, Hutton plays a Park Avenue doyenne with an appetite for lobster. But in an accompanying conversation with her old friend Huston, she plays the part of a refreshingly witty 70-year-old with important things to say about Nicki Minaj, avoiding sunscreen, and of course, the F word.
In the context of Hutton’s reminiscences about the New York Playboy Club scene of ’62, Huston plays her own role and asks if Hutton considers herself a feminist. “I don’t even know what that is anymore,” Hutton bluntly replies. Huston admits she finds it “such an odd question. It’s sort of like asking ‘Are you in favor of hands?’”
“Exactly,” Hutton elaborates. “I think women have been in the secondary position for 4,000 years, and it’s contra naturam, against nature.”
Daniel Radcliffe, and everyone else worth caring about, would agree.
Huston also asked Hutton about fashion shows. “They’re pretty curious,” Hutton admits. “This last time, I was seated next to rapper Nicki Minaj, who was very funny. Something came up and I said, ‘Do you know how old I am?’ And she looked at me and narrowed her eyes and said, ‘Whatever it is, you are 50!’”
Her secret? Loads of coconut oil. And a unique candor you can’t buy with a Sephora gift card.
