Happy Birthday To Me -- With Love From R2-D2!

This certainly IS the droid you’re looking for.

Every girl should be so lucky as to have a useful robot like R2-D2 in her life, ready to save the day when disaster strikes. (R2-D2 is the little blue and white droid from Star Wars, just in case you’ve been living in an abandoned freezer since the original film came out in 1977.)

R2-D2 is my favorite character in the Star Wars galaxy, mainly because he's slightly petulant. Remember when Luke Skywalker removed R2’s restraining bolt in an attempt to view Princess Leia’s message to Obi Wan Kenobi, only to have R2 suddenly claim he didn’t know anything about no stinkin' message and then take off? That little jerk! You can’t force him to do something he doesn’t want to do, and I’m no different.

I swear there's a valid reason I’m randomly talking about R2-D2 right now, here in 2014, thirty seven long years after Star Wars first came out. It's because a brand new, super adorable line of fancy R2 jewelry from ultimate fangirl line Her Universe is officially available for sale today, May 19 -- an important date in history otherwise known as my birthday! (Pssst! It's Rebecca Carroll's birthday too!) I'm considering the entire line one big happy birthday gift to me, straight from my favorite little droid.

Most character jewelry is a cheaply made affair, not worth wearing if you are over the age of ten, but the Her Universe R2-D2 jewelry is special. It features metals that don't turn your skin green, high quality Swarovski crystals and pearl beads that don't chip, flake or discolor. Everything in the line is designed at The Sparkle Factory in downtown Los Angeles, about a five minute drive from my house.

The pieces are obviously perfect for everyday wear, but if you're looking to add a bit of whimsy to a seriously fancy party dress, a spot of uber-chic R2-D2 jewelry simply can't be beat. And to really ramp up your nerd-girl cred, break out the acrylic paints and DIY your very own R2-D2 clutch to match -- you'll be the absolute belle of the ball. (I love Liquitex's water-based paint markers for painting on leather. They are crazy-easy to use and there is zero mess to clean up.)

So happy birthday to me -- from my beloved R2-D2 -- and may the (cute) force be with you!
