We celebrated the rainbow last week, but now it's time to go monochromatic, baby.
Bloody freezin’ ain’t it? And thank God. Yes, you heard me right; I said thank God it’s cold. Thank God January in the UK is toe-curlingly, nose-numbingly, nipple-freezingly cold, because it gives us (or at least me) the perfect excuse to hide that post-Christmas paunch behind a cosy jumper. Here’s how to do it in 2013…
Oversized knitsI find nothing helps me get through a dark and doomy Monday morning than a great big jumper… and a sesame bagel smothered in peanut butter and jam, but that’s another story.
An oversized knit is the ultimate sofa-to-world transition piece, and if you get it right no-one in the office will ever suspect that you’re still in hibernation mode. Wear them with skinny jeans (to help balance the voluminous jumper and highlight the fact that someone’s under there) and slipper shoes.
This is your every day, chuck it on and run jumper. Forget the skintight lump-and-bump highlighting jumper of old (‘90s bodycon polo neck anyone?), and go for a cropped (as in on your hips, not above your belly button!) boxy shape. The loose cropped cut is stylish and flattering, and goes with pretty much everything. Seriously. Tres chic.
SweatshirtsWhen was the last time you wore a sweatshirt? And no, I’m not talking about that old sweaty sweat you wear to the gym. Well if it’s been forever and a day then get with the programme.
Since the Olympic-inspired sports luxe trend hit the SS/12 catwalks, sweatshirts have made a massive comeback, and are once again suitable grown-up-and-in-full-employment attire. If you’re feeling flush go the full sports-luxe hog and opt for a designer version. Wear your sweatshirt with pride with jeans or cigarette pants and heels. Laid-back-sexy-cool.
Have you recently acquired a new jumper we should all know about? I just bought this scrumptious sequined hamburger sweater in the Urban Outfitters sale - which sadly didn’t arrive in time to make this post (boo), but is from the men’s department, which should make Phoebe happy (yay).
Anyway, do any of the jumpers above take your fancy (go on, flatter me)? Or do you have an old faithful jumper that you rely on year in year out to get you through the frosty months?
