As Madeline, Olivia and I were getting ready to leave the office last night, I spotted something poking out from Madeline's desk drawer that looked a lot like the Isabel Marant fishnet tank I missed out on this season.
"Is that...a top?" I asked, signaling the swatch of red mesh.
"Uh, no it's a shopping bag," she said. "I've had it since I was five actually." Madeline would by the way, manage to repurpose a bag for two decades.
Anyway, I pulled out the bag and examined it, wishing I could turn it into a mesh tank top Cinderella style and wear it to the Kiehl's event we were attending that evening. I'm not a natural DIY-er so it didn't occur to me to just cut off the bottom until Madeline suggested it. Duh!
Holding the bag by the handles, I snipped along the bottom seam with a heavy-ish pair of scissors. The ropey mesh was super tough, so the hem looks sort of jagged, but I like it that way. You could do this to any shopping bag really.
The best thing about bags is that they come in all shapes and sizes so there's a perfect fit for everyone. Wearing a bag is also a great way to rock an aspirational brand name. Margiela bag shirt anyone?
What do you think? Would you wear a bag to a party or is this DIY gone awry?
