We celebrated the rainbow last week, but now it's time to go monochromatic, baby.
As I’ve mentioned maybe a million times already, I am so done with winter! Luckily, I’ll be able to stop whining about this soon, because things are starting to look up here in Toronto. The sun is out, the temperature is slowly rising and I’m beginning to feel hopeful and excited about getting dressed again. But until it's warm enough to wear my spring clothes, all I can do is daydream. And you know what has been helping me with my outfit fantasies? Perfume!
I’m usually stick with one or two signature scents, but over the past few months, I’ve been rapidly acquiring new floral fragrances that remind me of spring (it's my little way of deterring the winter blues). I mean, if I can’t have actual spring yet, at least I can smell like it, right? As a result, I have a handful of new favorites and they each evoke a certain style or persona. For me, a scent is only interesting if it immediately helps me visualize a look -- all four of these florals easily translate to spring fashion.
1. CLASSIC FLORAL: Tocca Violette
Tocca fragrances are one of my absolute favorite discoveries of 2014 so far. I’ve indulged in their candles in the past (the Stella and the Colette both smell incredible), and I can safely say they’re some of the best candles money can buy. But I’d never really ventured into their actual fragrances until recently. I fell in love with Violette just by reading the description online, and the scent itself turned out to be even better than I expected. A charming blend of rose, violet, bergamot, coriander seed oil and “creamy cedarwood,” Violette is ladylike and almost overwhelmingly pretty. I can’t wait to wear it with my favorite vintage sun hat, trench coat, cute sandals, and a flirty lace dress to the Toronto Flower Market this spring!
2. EDGY FLORAL: MCMC Kept
I absolutely adore the little stories that go along with all of the MCMC fragrances, and Kept is no exception. A delicate blend of rose petals and black tea with hints of leather, amber and clove, Kept represents finding love within yourself instead of being kept by another. Described by MCMC as “romantic with hints of rock n’ roll,” this perfume is extremely feminine, but still retains a powerful and sexy edge. I picture myself pairing it with (faux) leather and lace this spring and going out dancing!
3. SOPHISTICATED FLORAL: Tocca Bianca
Another incredible Tocca scent, Bianca makes me feel like taking a whirlwind trip to Southern Italy to pick blood oranges. Bianca is a fresh blend of bergamot, lavender, rose, jasmine and green tea, sugar and mandarin. Described by Tocca, this scent is “intoxicatingly fresh, clean and sparkling, Bianca personifies la dolce vita.” I think my combination of big tortoiseshell Karen Walker sunglasses, wide brimmed hat from Bicyclette, tan over the knee socks and full skirt by Betina Lou would go perfectly with a mint Vespa, don’t you?
4. LAID-BACK FLORAL: Mermaid Perfume
To me, this orange blossom perfume smells like quintessential LA beach babe -- but without the coconut scented tanning oil bit. This delightful little bottle makes me wish I was a Venice beach bound California girl. My look for this scent is laid back and comfortable, beachy and fun. I paired my new Wildfox Mermaid boyfriend t-shirt with light wash jeans, white sneakers, a simple canvas tote by Fieldguided, and heart shaped sunnies. I like to imagine my more tanned self throwing on this outfit, spritzing myself with Mermaid perfume, and heading to the beach!
Which floral scents are you coveting for this spring? What about spring outfits? Come daydream with me!
