When it Comes to Primping, What's Your Priority?

When it comes to your hair, makeup, nails or skin -- which takes precedence?

I was talking cold hard cash shit in the comment section last week and one of you amazing xoJane readers mentioned something about your personal grooming priorities, which of course got me to thinking.

The grass is always greener on the other side, as I'd love to know what it feels like to spend significantly less time worrying about how I look.

As a beauty writer and editor, I don't have the luxury of having a primping priority, per se. Each and every part of my entire routine -- as exhaustive as it is, from head-to-toe -- is equally important as the last. And as a result, I make no apologies for it -- it's my job to look good.

Chipped nail polish? No damn ma'am. Cutting my own hair, let alone coloring it myself? Nah. I hardly trust my clumsy hands to get it exactly right. (Well, save for my undercut. I buzz that part myself every 3 days.) Stepping outside without lipstick? I'm going to have to pass. I'd feel naked. An uneven complexion? Absolutely not. Stained teeth? Hell fuck no. Seriously -- I could go on and on.

And while the darling Alison spends over $4,000 a year to look pretty, it costs a LOT more to be me. Between regular mani/pedis, facials, peels, waxing, laser hair removal, hairstyling, et al, my beauty bill rings up much higher.

Granted, 50% of the services I receive are completely gratis, but I'm more than happy to shell out my own hard earned cash for the treatments I thoroughly enjoy, too.

(Side note: This dolls, is the plight of a beauty editor. We often feel like we have to write about something because we got it for free. It's definitely the biggest bane of this particular business. However, if I LOVE it, I'm more than happy to support the business/brand and pony up full price for it. But I digress.)

With all that said, I fully know that everyone prioritizes their beauty regimens differently, and for some, not everything is a necessity. That's why I'm asking you all to tell me what's the one thing you daren't ever give up, be it an occasional indulgence or a necessary part of your everyday routine?

Is your hair your crowning glory? Does picture-perfect nail polish make you feel like a lady? Never met an eyeliner you didn't love? Dish, dammit!
