It’s never too late!
I know y'all are dealing with some scorching summer temperatures and oppressive humidity, but I'm gonna take a Kanye minute to let you know that Phoenix has one of the hottest summers of all time.
This is my fifth summer (er... can we just call it a roast?) in the valley, and I'm still not used to it. To give you an example of just how hot it is, I'll tell you that yesterday, when I checked the weather, I said to myself, "Oh, only 103 today!"
So, yeah. It's hot.
It's hot where you are, too, I know. And when the temps are high, you just wanna find a way to get through it. The blast of an icy air conditioner helps, as does a good splash session in the pool. But you know what else helps? Beauty products that make you feel and look like a summer beauty queen.
Norabloom Dandelion Face Cream, $44
I discovered Norabloom not too long ago (I wrote about their rosewater mist) and became instantly smitten. From their packaging to their deliberate choice of organic ingredients to the products themselves, I find that my expectations are always exceeded.
Their Dandelion Face Cream is one of my favorites, especially in the dry and hot Phoenix climate. It's exceptionally moisturizing, probably because it's chock-full of rich ingredients such as organic jojoba, shea butter and almond oil. It also contains glycolic acid (from sugarcane) and smells like the earth. I apply this before bedtime and wake up with super-soft and hydrated skin.
Change Soap Pink Sea Lavender Breeze Spray, $14
I'm head over heels for Change Soap Company, which sells on Etsy. Not only are their products 100% vegan and natural, their packaging is spot-on and their prices are super-affordable. This Pink Sea Lavender Breeze hair texturizing and volumizing spray is made with pink Himalayan sea salt and lavender.
It smells light, fresh and earthy, and the nozzle emits the gentlest, finest of mists for easy application. I use this when my hair is feeling limp after a hot day to not only improve texture, but also smell.
Gnarly Whale Watermelon Lip Balm, $3.50
You guys, this is so good! I love The Gnarly Whale's lip balm formulations--they're silky, hydrating, and they're always scented just enough. They use candelilla wax (versus beeswax) to make it 100% vegan, and the ingredient list is simple and straightforward.
I find that the Watermelon Lip Balm is especially appropriate for these hot months, as it's super-juicy and fresh. Watermelon is basically the fruit mascot of summer, right?
Hello Hair Hydrating Mask Island Escape Edition, $18
This Hello Hair Hydrating Mask has been my go-to hair mask this summer for several reasons. First of all, it works damn well. Second, it smells positively dreamy. Its first ingredient is coconut oil, which is obvious the second you open the packet. It also contains a bevy of other oils, including grapeseed oil, castor oil, pomegranate seed oil, vanilla fruit oil and grapefruit peel oil.
All that oil means you should keep this product away from your scalp and focus on massaging it into the ends of your hair. I usually leave it on for about 30 to 60 minutes and then wash with a super-sudsy shampoo. My hair looks really shiny and smells amazing after every use. Also, you can get numerous uses out of this; I find one packet lasts me around five to six times, and my hair is extraordinarily thick.
Tommy Bahama Mineral Face Tinted Sunscreen, $16
The struggle is real when it comes to face-approved sunscreens, especially for those of us with sensitive skin. I've found a winner in Tommy Bahama's Mineral Face Tinted Sunscreen, which boasts a mighty SPF 30 and the ability to gently even out skin tone. It's mildly fragranced like "natural vanilla," and a little goes a long way. This one is a must-have for your purse or your beach bag.
Clean Air Eau de Parfum, $38
Let's face it: sometimes the heat can leave us smelling less than pretty. I don't like to load up on heavy perfumes in the summer, but instead opt for clean, elegant and fresh scents. This is especially true during the day time, when the sweat monster is out and prowling like the ferocious beast it is.
CLEAN Air EDP is like the sweat monster's kryptonite in the sense that it gives you that cool, crisp, "freshly showered" vibe even if you could collect enough sweat off your back to water the herb garden. Bonus: it layers with practically anything else you're wearing.
Suki Exfoliate Foaming Body Cleanser, $32.95
I was instantly intrigued by this Suki product because it's not just a plain old exfoliating scrub. NOPE. It exfoliates and it foams, and that makes me a very happy woman.
It kind of feels like magic when you use it, and not just because of the fancypants science behind it. It moisturizers and exfoliates at once, and it leaves your skin feeling so supple. I'm also a fan of the bright, citrusy fragrance. Definitely a pick-me-up in the morning.
