How I Turn My Bath Into a Shamelessly Indulgent Pampering Experience

I can't be the only one who wears perfume to bed...

I'm not a habitual bath-taker, so when I decide to fill an entire tub with water, I make sure that I'm gonna have a good time. That means creating a luxurious sensory experience, complete with soothing fragrance, lots of bubbles, skin-nourishing water and plush towels. And when it's all said and done, I like to wrap myself up in a pretty robe, like the vintage score I'm wearing in these pictures, and then cozy up in bed with my felines.

Perhaps these recommendations will inspire a home spa bath day in your near future.

I contend that no bath is complete without a layer of giant, fluffy bubbles floating on the surface. And because I'm attracted to gorgeous product design the way a honey bee is drawn to nectar, Peacock Parfumerie's Bubble Bath in Daydream is a favorite. I mean... look at that bottle! The formula creates very fine bubbles, and leaves my skin very softly scented after I step out of the tub.

Another bath must: a calming candle. I personally enjoy lighting a couple and then turning all the lights off while I soak. There's something so, so relaxing about the soft, flickering light against the wall and the sound of water swishing around whenever I move.

This Blue Sage & Lavender soy wax candle by Paddywax is impressively strong for its size, and again, I love the packaging. This is part of their Apothecary collection, which has lots of other scents that fall into the "take me away!" category.

Words cannot describe how fancy I feel when I wash myself with a giant sea sponge like the one above, made by Baudelaire. If you haven't used a sea sponge before, you have to try it at least once. They are so soft, they hold so much water and product, and they clean effectively, but delicately. This company harvests the sponges by hand from the ocean floor in the Gulf of Mexico.

Malie Organics makes these Therapeutic Bath Soaks made with 100% natural sea salts that are mixed with an organic blend of kukui and macadamia oils, as well as other nourishing ingredients. Add a scoop to the bath tub and you'll step out with the softest skin in the world. The fragrance I have is called koke'e, and is inspired by Hawaiin habitat. It's a very green and clean scent, with a sweet note of jasmine and the warmth of amber to ground it.

A lady's got to exfoliate, and what better way to scrub a dub than with something that shimmers? This nyl Organic Luminous Shimmer Scrub is a 100% organic blend of cane sugar, plus various oils, including rosehip, meadowfoam, grapeseed and vitamin E. It's scented with organic essential oils, and it shimmers thanks to a pinch of mica, leaving a very subtle shimmer on your skin. I'd been eyeing this one for a while and it does not disappoint!

Finally, in addition to a cozy towel, a slippery bath robe, and cushy slippers, I like to slather myself with some body oil or cream, and then spritz on some perfume. The perfume changes all the time, of course, but I figured I'd take this opportunity to talk about Tocca's newest EDP, Emelia. It's super-crisp and fresh, like that first burst of cool air that rushes through the windows when you open them in the morning. It has top notes of "watery clementine," and fruit, middle notes of fig and magnolia, and a base of grass and coconut water. It's one of their cooler, crisper and lighter scents — perfect for spring and summer.
