OPEN THREAD: Beauty Nightmares, Literally

Let me tell you about the horrifying zit-popping dream I had last week.

I've been going through a period of really vivid, stressful dreams for a few weeks now. I had my first dream about Max, my recently deceased dog, since he died; I dreamt my other dog, Rufus, kept getting away from me in dangerous situations; I dreamt my boyfriend accidentally broke my arm while we were dancing, etc.

But one of the most clear and memorable dreams I've had recently occurred last Friday night. I dreamt I was popping a few zits on my face. This might sound gross to some of you but awesome to others; I'm definitely the latter when it comes to reacting to popping whiteheads and watching videos of people getting years-old pimples demolished by a non-dermatologist friend in a dirty kitchen. And at first, I was totally into the dream, getting the satisfaction of popping zits I don't really have in waking life.

But then it got gross, even by popping-as-entertainment standards.

The zits I was squeezing in the dream looked average, but when they popped, a ridiculous amount of pus would come out. Like, streams, as if my skin were three feet thick.

Don't worry, it gets worse.

I clearly remember, in the dream, popping a zit just above my eyebrow, and in addition to way too much white stuff, a living housefly came out.

This dream happened the night before Halloween, and I was planning on wearing cheap white base makeup, so maybe I was worried about clogging my pores? But damn. No one deserves to dream about insects living and emerging from their zits.

I've had other beauty-related dreams in the past, about everything from haircuts to weird lipstick colors, but I can't remember the last time I'd had a beauty nightmare.

So, of course, I want to know:

  • Have you ever had a literal beauty nightmare?
  • How about a good beauty dream?
  • Are you one of those people who actually likes to hear about other people's dreams, like I am?
  • What waking-life stuff are you thinking about this weekend?
