Weird Product Of The Week: Foreo Luna

My new favourite cleansing brush makes washing your face feel like something out of a sci-fi film.

I first discovered this little gem at my mom's--she has the Luna Mini, a pocket-sized version of the original. After using it every evening, I was hooked. My face felt really clean, but not tight or irritated. I was also really drawn to the silicone bristles and how easy to clean it was.

Though I'm not particularly a germaphobe, I loved how I could simply wipe and dry the unit instantly, toss it in my bag without worrying about drying time or if it might get contaminated with the chocolate bar I forgot to finish two weeks ago.

I knew I had to get one for myself!

Foreo sent me a Luna of my very own--a pink little number designed for sensitive and normal skin. Not only does the Luna promise to remove dead skin cells and cleanse my pores of dirt, oil and makeup, there's also an anti-aging mode that's meant to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Sign me up yesterday!

On its cleansing side, the Luna features tiny silicone bristles that pulsate using T-sonic (transdermal sonic) technology. Basically, it's the same idea behind the Clarisonic.

An article in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology posits that "the cleansing of the skin is dependent upon the user's diligence, compliance, and technique, which often results in inconsistent cleansing. When the skin is inadequately or excessively cleansed, the skin becomes compromised, sometimes leading to acute or chronic conditions that may require medical attention." A little dramatic, sure, but it's why these tools exist--to take the guesswork out of cleansing the face.

Sonic pulsations (in this case, up to 14,000 per minute) make sure that your face is clean. And this cleanliness has made a difference in my skin!

The anti-aging portion of the device has small ridges that pulsate at a slower speed. Has it worked? It's too soon to tell. But that hasn't stopped me from closing my eyes, enjoying the vibrations, and pretending I'm at some tricked-out science fiction spa.

In conjunction with Mario Badescu's Enzyme Cleansing Gel and Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, which I bought because I trust all the soft-skinned xo writer babes who swear by the brand, Luna is bringing my skin back towards the right direction. I have been using the it for two months now, and although some spots and discolouration remain, the skin surrounding it is glowing, and the marks are fading.

I love this brush. It has really made a difference in my cleansing routine and I'm really into the fact that the silicone head means no replacement brushes. It's well worth the price tag, in my opinion.
