These are my favorite ways to rinse off summer stickiness.
I'm really horrible about taking my makeup off at night. Maybe I've experienced one too many eye-burning, skin-irritating makeup removers, or maybe I'm just extra-lazy in the evening, but for one reason or another I just never found a way to consistently work makeup removal into my routine. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and go to sleep. Most mornings I wake up with mascara stains all over my pillows. I know, I know, I’m the worst.
I tried one brand's wipes, and they worked for a bit, but after a while they caused the skin around my eyes to burn and itch. Then I tried an oil-based remover, which you massage into your eyes and lashes before washing your face. This didn’t cause any pain, but it left a weird, fuzzy sheen over my eyes that lasted to the next morning.
By the time I found Comodynes Micellar Cleanser wipes, I was pretty much convinced I would never find a product that worked for me.
I’m going to be honest: it was the pale pink packaging that initially caught my eye. I was “just window shopping” at Jacob & Sebastian, my favourite Toronto independent cosmetics store, when the perfect shade of ballet pink pulled me in.
I read the pack quickly (something about sensitive skin, something about 20 wipes, something about $12) and took it up to the cash. It couldn’t hurt to try just one more product right?
I avoided the wipes for a few nights, scared to re-experience the burning pain that is a bad cheap makeup remover. When I finally got around to opening the package one night after a particularly bad bout of “I got too drunk” crying, I sort of fell in makeup-removal love.
I had finally found a remover that would be there for me, no matter what the state of my makeup; one that wouldn’t cause more pain-related tears.
But on a serious note, these wipes are actually the best. They smell so flowery and good, but in a completely non-intrusive way. They function as toner, wash, and makeup remover, but there’s no need to rinse after you use them. One wipe gets everything off with just one side, and according to the lady who sold it to me, you can use both sides if you find one side isn’t enough.
The best part, though, is obviously that they don’t irritate my skin at all--they’re hypoallergenic, and free of alcohol, parabens and colorants.
Today I woke up with clean lashes and no chunks of black in my eyes. My face actually feels clean.
