I basically called my mom for help. Except when I say mom, I mean an esthetician.
There's a running joke between my mother and I that I own enough body lotion to fill up a swimming pool. Although my facial skin is quite oily, my body skin can reach Sahara-level dryness without much provocation.
Since I started reading xoVain, I’ve been introduced to the wonderful world of dry oils, and now I’m wondering why they haven’t been my go-to all along.
Here are the ones I've been obsessed with lately.
Nuxe is the dry oil that launched my obsession with dry oils. It comes in a spray bottle, which is great because it's so handy and makes less of a mess for me.
The best thing about dry oils is that they hydrate your skin without feeling greasy because they absorb so fast. This oil had one of the best absorption rates of the bunch, so I can spray it on and rub it in quickly before work and not feel like it’s just sitting on top of my skin. The scent is summery and absolutely dreamy (so much so that I have the perfume version, too) so I wear this often.
The packaging on this dry oil doesn’t come with a spray or a pump, so it’s a little bit of a mess to apply, to be honest. Since it’s a dry oil, it absorbs quickly so that’s not an issue, but getting the right amount of product can be a little tough.
This oil took slightly longer to absorb than the others here, but I did feel like my skin stayed smoother for longer with this one. It also smelled like apricots on me, which I’m attributing to the grapefruit and orange oils included in the ingredients, but I was surprised by how strong the citrus scent was given that those oils weren’t at the top of the list of ingredients — jojoba, borage, and grapeseed take those spots.
Since it does take a little longer to absorb, I usually reserve this for overnight smoothing.
This is by far my favorite of the bunch in terms of ease of application because it comes packaged like roll-on deodorant (as the name would indicate). It is so convenient to use because I can just roll it over my body, close it up, and then rub everything in. It’s easy to grab and go as well if I’m in a hurry, and I don’t worry about it breaking in my purse because it’s a plastic bottle and the cap screws on tight.
The scent is a soft coconut — not too overpowering, which is a big plus. This does have coconut oil in it (although it’s not high on the ingredients list) so if you’re not a fan of that, it might not be for you.
I'm a big fan of The Body Shop Honeymania line, and the scent of this oil is like a toned-down version of that. It comes in two shades, Golden Honey and Honey Bronze, and I have the latter of the two.
I find Honey Bronze is perfect for my skin in the summertime because it’s slightly darker and reads well on my skin tone. I’m already brown, so I can’t comment on how effective it is at making your skin appear more golden, but I can say that it enhances what I’ve already got going for me and makes my legs look especially luminous. The shimmer is really fine so it doesn’t look glittery — bonus!
