I basically called my mom for help. Except when I say mom, I mean an esthetician.
As a 21-year-old without even the slightest trace of fine lines, applying anti-aging creams is a little comical. Still, in the hopes of preventing wrinkles before they start, I've slathered on a slew of pricey collagen and retinol products.
Recently, though, I've taken a more measured approach, because all we really need in our twenties is a detoxifier loaded with vitamin C (to block out all those nasty environmental aggressors) and a hydrating anti-aging eye cream. Here's what I'm using for day and night early defense against wrinkles.
Vitamin C Detoxifiers
For Day: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster
This reminds me of the orange Gatorade my mom gave me as a kid when I was sick--it even smells the same. I love it because it spreads on my skin like a dream, hydrating and brightening while providing a flawless, non-greasy base for foundation. It's also chock-full of antioxidants. The formula boasts a proprietary five-source Vitamin C combo, making it a top dog at preventing and expelling free radicals and environmental damage. Did I mention it’s paraben-, sulfate-, and phthalate-free? Your skin is going to love this.
For Night: Peter Thomas Roth Camu Camu Power C x 30 Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask
I love a good sleeping mask, and this one is such an overachiever that I find myself reaching for it several times weekly. Let me spell it out: vitamin C equals detox; oranges are loaded with vitamin C; and, holy moly, this mask has got 30 times more vitamin C per ounce than your average orange. Use it at night and you'll wake up with skin that’s smooth, hydrated, and less susceptible to wrinkles.
Multi-Tasking Eye Creams
For Day: Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream
I buy myself iced coffee every single day. At night, I read in a warm bath. I’m known to have a glass of red wine most days. To cut this list short, I like to treat myself. Still, the most luxurious part of my day--the part I look forward to the most--is waking up and popping on this Fresh eye gel cream. Thanks to rosewater, rose oil, and cucumber extract, the formula has a soothing, cooling, and moisturizing effect on my tired eyes (and eye bags). The product promises 30 straight hours of hydration and uses golden root extract to target puffy eyes with protective antioxidants.
For Night: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye
In my hunt to find an eye cream that moisturizes while fighting the aging effects of pollution, it quickly became obvious that no one does it better than Estée Lauder. The brand’s exclusive Chronolux Technology repairs the effects of even the harshest of environmental attacks while also fighting dark circles, puffiness, lines, and uneven skin tone. It's a flawless counterpart to my Fresh gel cream and it makes my eyes look radiant first thing in the morning.
Oh, and remember that nothing is more preventative than a good sunscreen worn all day every day. Everything falls second to that.
