New York's never-ending polar vortex, while nowhere near as bad as what's happening in New England, is keeping me inside quite a lot these days. The downside is that I'm running out of episodes of Pretty Little Liars. The upside is that it's forcing me to organize the clutter in my apartment, specifically my beauty surplus.

I've been doing this long enough that I no longer take home everything that comes through the door. I do a quick edit and only choose things that I'm genuinely curious about or work with my skin tone or type; everything else goes into the closet or to a writer to review. That said, I still have a lot of stuff.

(Sidebar: Has anyone read Marie Kondo's book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up? I just downloaded it for my Kindle and am planning to read it this weekend. Everyone I know says it changed their life. Thoughts?)

But I've gotten really good at getting rid of things, which is freeing. I used to hold on to that weird blush, strange mascara, or confusing moisturizer because I hoped that I'd try it again and discover that it was actually great. But in all these years, that has NEVER happened. So, out it goes. On to the next.

Over to you:

  • How many chances do you give a product before you move on?
  • Have you ever held on to something and fallen in love with it later?
  • How much product do you have lying around that you NEVER use?

Speak on that, or anything else that's on your mind, in this week's judicious Open Thread!
