Our Weekly Beauty News Should Just Be Called "What MAC Announced This Week and Also Some Other Stuff"

"Other stuff" includes celebrity temporary tattoos, sparkly pot leaves, and alternative uses for your heat-styling tools.

Since my return to xoVain a year ago, MAC news has shown up in a whopping quarter of our weekly beauty-news roundups. No other brand has appeared anywhere near that often!

As much as we love MAC around here, it's not favoritism, I swear. (Although I am wearing MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Nose For Style today.) It's just that no other brand churns out newsworthy announcements — like collaborations and fun collections — as often as MAC does.

And, as you might have guessed, this week is no exception.

MAC is trolling us

When I heard that MAC is launching a Good Luck Trolls line this summer — "a crazy-hued collection" based on the "wild-haired dolls of your youth" — I thought that was a bit of a stretch. Then I remembered that the lipstick I'm wearing is from their 2015 dog-inspired collection.

Then I realized that it's not so much based on the rather unattractive troll dolls that have come in and out of collectible fashion for decades, but rather it's a cross-promotion dealio with the Dreamworks animated movie, Trolls (which, yes, is based on the dolls, but makes them look much cuter than the actual toys), which will be released this fall.

As you can see, the shades will be pretty bold and bright; MAC themselves calls the range "silly." The packaging is some of the most youthful I've ever seen from the brand, so perhaps this collection also serves as a ploy to get tweens to spend their allowance on MAC makeup.

Insert joke about having a huge orgasm here

MAC isn't the only brand with fun launch news this week. NARS announced that, later this spring, they'll be selling a supersize version of their cult-favorite blush shade, Orgasm.

The original, launched in 1999, measures .5 x 3 inches, whereas the upcoming version will measures about 3 x 4 inches.

By some miracle, I have not found a "size matters" joke in any coverage of this announcment.

Get all of Selena Gomez's tattoos without the lifelong commitment

Selena Gomez currently has seven tattoos. That's one more than I have, but I can quickly and painlessly get a seventh tattoo that looks just like one of hers — and you can, too, now that she'll be selling temporary tattoos of her actual tattoos.

Part of the merch for her Revival tour, the temporary tattoos allow her fans (many of whom are presumably too young to legally get real tattoos) to briefly wear the exact same designs she permanently wears. Her especially rebellious fans may want to wear them on different body parts. (So defiant!)

According to Teen Vogue, "As of now Selena has a Hindu Om symbol on her hip, the letter 'G' behind her left ear, the quote 'Love Yourself First' in Arabic on her back, 'God who strengthens me' on her hip, Roman numerals 'LXXVI' on her neck, a music note on her wrist, and we’re still waiting to see the reveal of her seventh one."

Vanessa Hudgens did not get Sable's memo

Selena Gomez's fellow Spring Breaker Vanessa Hudgens is basically the official spokesperson of "festival beauty," so it's no surprise that she posted a picture of the manicure she got for the first weekend of Coachella. And boy, is it a doozy!

According to People, she's wearing OPI Ice-Bergers & Fries, a bunch of Swarovski crystals, and "pot leaves" drawn on with Vetro Rose Leaf gel polish. (Happy 4/20, by the way, if that's what you're into.) This combo reportedly cost $190.

I can't help but worry that at least one of those crystals is going to end up in a VIP portapotty toilet. But I guess that's better than it ending up on the middle of her forehead.

Who needs a microwave when you've got a flat iron?

It wasn't until I watched this adorable, newly viral video that I realized I've been missing out on the magic that is seeing popcorn pop by microwaving it in a bag (you know, like god intended). These youngsters put a popcorn kernel between the plates of a flat iron, turned it on, and it totally worked. Even though they had the idea, they seem super-surprised that it succeeded.

By the way, the second line of that tweet says "Lol I was able to popcorn" in Japanese.
