It's The Freakin' Weekend, Baby, and We're Gonna Have Ourselves a GALENTINE'S Sleepover

Come to xoVain's first meta-sleepover party for ALL the beauty treats.

Do you remember going to sleepovers at your friends' houses and doing all sorts of weird girl things? Or non-weird girl things, like making face masks, watching Dirty Dancing again, hitting each other with pillows/soft things (someone ALWAYS ended up crying afterwards), staying up late and shit-talking?

Well, good for you. I was never allowed to go to sleepovers! Actually, just the sleepover part was a no-go — my mom would pick me up before bedtime. I totally felt like the lamest duck having to leave when the MOST fun thing was happening (it was probably just okay, but I was edging into pubescent FOMO, and how!). I later was told the reason for my non-sleepover rites was that my mom was paranoid someone's dad would try to touch me up or something, which, like, wow, mom, way to bring my childhood memories to a dark place.

Now that I'm grown and can sleep at whomever's house I wish, or for that matter invite other people to sleep at my house, I asked the lovely ladies of xoVain what they would bring to my fictional Galentine's Day-themed sleepover. I mean, if you're into beauty, wouldn't the BEST sleepover be in the company of a bunch of beauty writers?

Yes, it would.

Here's what we're working with.

"I love a good bubble mask. If nothing else, they're fun, and great for sleepover selfies. Now e.l.f. has come out with a version with their new Hydrating Bubble Mask, so my wallet is super-grateful.

"I love applying it with the Pore Refining Brush and Mask Tool because of the rubber spatula-eque end. I have a similar one from a Korean skincare brand sold in Sephora, but this e.l.f. version is just as good (maybe better?) and way cheaper. This one also has a small brush on the other side that you use in circular motions with your facial cleanser so you can get into all the nooks and crannies of the face, without actually having to touch your face. Is it necessary? No. Is it fun? Yes.

"After we remove the face mask, we can use this cool Facial Massager to rub in our face lotion. Facial massage is supposed to be really good for collagen production and overall skin health, so for $4, I'm willing to try it!"

"For Galentine's Day, I would bring two things: a whole bunch of nail polish — because I have way too many and I need to spread the love — and coconut oil for hair masks. This stuff is the shit for fixing up hair — better than any actual hair mask I've tried."

"I'd bring Let The Good Times Roll by Lush. I love this cleanser because it smells like cookie dough and there’s actual bits of popcorn in there for exfoliation. Also, the name is very suitable for our cyber sleepover. Doing karaoke and drinking all the drinks just goes better when you have perfect soft skin, or so I’d like to believe. I also volunteer to braid everyone’s hair!"

"For a Galentine's Day sleepover, I'd bring a bunch of my masks (to share, of course). My newest fave is Guac Star by Farmhouse Fresh. It's moisturizing and smells like cake, and since it's green, it's perfect for fun/horrifying slumber party selfies. My other faves are the Pixi Mud Mask, since it smooths my skin, and The Face Shop's hyaluronic acid sheet mask.

"I also propose a compliment game, where we write really nice things about each other anonymously and put the compliments in each other's bags. I did this on a retreat once in high school, and it was really fun! I know this is a beauty site and all, so maybe we could do beauty-related compliments?!"

"I would bring this adorable TONYMOLY Magic Food Banana Sleeping Pack, so that we can pass it around when we're done with face masks and exclaim over how it really smells like bananas and then everyone will wake up with soft, glowing skin and love me forever. I'd also bring wine and Doug because duh. "

Me (obvs):

Perfume, lipstick, and face masks. Fragrance and lippie may make you think "Well, where are you going, missy?" but in all honesty, it's what I always have on my person regardless of romance. Also, I am forever curious what other people wear on their lips, and there is no better way to get someone to show you theirs than showing them yours (lipstick, people).

I am IMPRESSED with Maybelline's latest lip product, their Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color — it's got a unique jelly texture that gives you a softly matte finish that actually feels plumpy, and not at all dry.

Chosungah 22 is a Korean makeup brand you can find in Sephora and they make my favorite lipstick-balm. It's clear balm that tastes fruity (this one is Guava). The Skinfood Black Sugar Strawberry Wash-Off Mask smells like literal strawberry jam. There are little seeds in there for exfoliation but mostly it smells like strawberry jam! And makes your face nice and smooth too, so double good on you, Skinfood.

Diptyque and Catbird X Obeah are making the best rose-based fragrances out there yet, according to me. I'm not a floral-scents type of person, mind you, and I'm into these. The Catbird X Obeah one is called Calliope, and it's a rose and patchouli fragrance that's got a sharp thorny rose overlaying a deep and near smokey patchouli. This is one of those fragrances that hits like a blade upon first spritz, but wait a minute and you get a really dirty-pretty complex scent.

Diptyque's Eau De Rose is a classic rose fragrance that errs on the fresh side — not suffocatingly potpourri-like as some rose fragrances can easily lean. It really does smell like the best version of a rose water; it's all dewy petals on a light breeze.

Does anyone still have sleepovers? Or can we just have a big beauty-focused brunch, like Leslie Knope's literal Galentine's Day affair. I do love brunch...
