It's gonna get sappy up in here.
We’re coming to that time of the season when we start reflecting on the year that has passed in preparation for the year ahead. This has been a very busy and exciting year for me; in a lot of ways, it’s been both the best and worst year of my life. One of the absolute best things that’s happened to me this year is getting the opportunity to write here on xoVain, largely in part because you guys are the absolute best community to interact with. So here are the top five times that this community showed me just how awesome it is.
Having begun as a reader myself (I still read every article), I was about 25% excited and 75% terrified for my first piece to be published back in June. Not only was it my first piece on xoVain, it was my first published piece ever. I knew from interacting with everyone in the comments before that you were serious about beauty, and I wanted to make sure to start off on a good note. I was overwhelmed by how many of you just commented to say you were glad to see that I was writing for xoVain, and it made me less scared to keep pitching. It can be tough to be the new kid on the block, but you made me feel totally welcome.
My grandmother was one of my favorite people ever, so I was devastated when she passed away a few months ago. It’s still hard sometimes, but I so appreciated your love and support when I wrote about the beauty and life lessons I’d learned from my grandmother. Having the support of my family and friends is something that is so important to me, and I really feel like you are my friends, too.
When I shared with you my high school reunion look, I also shared a few of the super-awkward beauty flubs from my youth. I was so glad to see/read that I wasn’t alone in those experimental years, and I loved how candid everyone was with each other about their beauty mishaps. You guys crack me up on a daily basis, but there was nothing funnier than that thread, in my opinion.
Some of you mentioned in a few Open Threads that you would love a LOTW column, so I jumped at the chance to be able to bring that to life. As with my first article, I was nervous for LOTW to launch, because I wanted to make it fun and exciting. Luckily, you guys dove head first into LOTW with me, and I have been both awed and inspired by you all each week when you show me your looks.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I really care what the readers think. When I chopped all my hair off last month I loved it, but I was interested to see how you would respond. You all made me even more confident in my big hair change with your kind words and positive feedback, and it really made me feel great.
So what’s the lesson here? xoVain really does have the best community on the Internet, where for all my silly awkwardness, I feel totally at home and comfortable sharing tidbits about my personal life--and of course my favorite makeup goodies. Thank you guys for being you.
