The Super-Easy Pastel Geometric Nail Art I Came Up With On The Fly

There's no right or wrong way to do this, considering I improvised the whole thing while watching '90s cartoons.

The other night, I was sitting on my sofa drinking a
pamplemousse La Croix and staring dully into the abyss of my life, shoveling piles of hummus-smeared
pretzel crisps into my mouth, when I thought, “I should paint some cool stuff
on my nails.”

I was watching Angry Beavers on YouTube and having a grand
time with dear Lucy Cat when I decided to paint a bunch of random lines, dots
and shapes on my nails with all my favorite pastel, spring-ish polishes.

I started with a base of white, specifically Essie “Blanc.”
Then I used a couple of different polishes to draw lines, dots and other shapes
on top.

Here are the polishes I used:

· E.L.F. Light Pink, which is hard to see in the
photos but it does exactly what it says.

· Essie's Play Date a really fun lilac color I
showed y’all in my lavender article.

· L'Oreal's Not a Cloud in Sight, a vibrant
sky-blue shade.

· L'Oreal's Tweet Me, a yellow that requires a bit
of layering to show up, but is a pretty, baby-chicken shade of yellow with one
of my least favorite nail polish names of all time. (P.S. Tweet me!)

·Color Club's London Calling, a cute, minty-lime
green created exclusively for BirchBox.

On some nails, I drew basic stripes. On others, I did
diagonal or criss-crossing lines, or polka dots of various sizes. My favorite
is probably my left thumb, with this cute scalloped pattern along the bottom of
the nail.

I used a Pilot Precise V5 pen to outline certain lines and
draw in tinier dots. These are literally the only pens I can work with in any
way. I’m pickier about pens than anything, and this pen is the best. Extra-fine
tip, please.

I like the lines a bit wobbly, but you can use a business card or
some tape to get a straight line. I’ve been watching a lot of '90s cartoons and
my brain feels wiggly.

I waited a LONG time for the pen ink to dry. Like, three or four episodes of The Office long. (But I mean, how was I not gonna watch both parts
of the two-part Jim and Pam wedding? Honestly.)

I went over everything with NYC Matte Me Crazy Mattifying
Top Coat. I’m actually not crazy about the way the matte looks on top, but I
couldn’t find my other top coat and I’m weirdly convinced that this matte coat
keeps the polish from chipping more than any other top coat I’ve tried. I took
these photos three days after doing my nails.

I really like the way the whole thing turned out.
Maybe I’ll start doing my nails more often.

So, what’s your favorite cartoon? Oh, and show me your nails
