Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
I'm a pretty easy sell when it comes to beauty products: If an item has nice packaging (think hints of gold or pastel) there is a 95 percent chance I'll buy it. This not-so-narrow set of guidelines means that Paul & Joe gets me every time.
Spring/Summer 2015 is no exception to Paul & Joe's winning streak with my wallet. This time they're reeling me in with jungle-inspired packaging and a palette with cute animal faces.
The S/S 2015 collection is inspired by classic French menageries, and it is a veritable parade of pastel wonders and pretty hidden details. The lipsticks are etched with hibiscus flowers, the nail polishes have names like Perroquet Rose, and Paul & Joe's signature paper packaging is all palm fronds and flamingos and whimsy.
I had the pleasure of playing around with the friendly animals of the Paul & Joe S/S Menagerie. Here’s what I thought of the products.
Perhaps the most interesting product in this collection, Eye Gloss is a moisturizing cream shadow that's applied to your lids just like lip gloss.
Unfortunately I found this product to be very hard to work with, and much more sheer than I prefer. I used primer and layered the color to try and get a more bold look, but the end result was a bit clumpy, so I suggest you aim for a light shimmer instead of a pop of color when using these.
The Face and Eye Color compact features a collection of cute animals with different purposes.
Swan = highlighter. Hippo = accent shade. Cat = eye color. Blush = elephant! On top of being almost unbearably cute, this product works super well. The powders are very pigmented, blend easily, and have great staying power. I dusted on some blush and highlighter first, and ended up also using a bit of the accent color on top of the blue eye gloss I’d applied to make the color pop.
The lip offerings from this collection were fairly straightforward, but beautiful all the same.
Featuring a classic beige, a bright pinkish red, and a tropical coral, these lipsticks are creamy and very pigmented. The coral (aka Ménagerie) might just become my official spring shade!
