Bizarre And Beautiful Colored Mascara/Eyeliner Combos

Yellow, green, purple, pink, and blue--some worked, some made me look like I had an eye infection.

There are tons of brightly colored makeup products out there that I don’t normally use, mainly because I don't want to look like a clown. Lipstick is the only exception--red, yellow, blue, green, I'll try anything.

I used to be an avid mascara and eyeliner wearer in high school and college, but now I keep my eyes totally bare. I don’t wear eye shadow at all--and if I do, it’s a neutral shade.

Lately, though, I've been thinking about trying a smoky or cat eye. Too bad my lazy bones can't rise early enough in the morning to produce such art. So I thought back to my college days, when I went on a colored mascara and eyeliner spree. Well, it wasn’t necessarily a spree, but I did this thing where I would pair blue mascara with pink eyeliner every time I went out. Sounds crazy, I know, but the pink eyeliner barely showed on my pink lids, so all you saw was blue mascara and glossy bottom inner lids.

I decided to start that college thang back up now that summer is here, because if there's one thing I love, it's shining bright in the sun (cue Rihanna's “Diamonds”).

My mission: pair unusual mascara colors with matching eyeliner to kick my eye makeup game up a notch. Some of these color combos worked, others were truly bizarre. But hey, it’s summer and almost anything goes as long as you're having fun. On to the pics and the products...

Damn, Sun

You don't need to put on your glasses to see that this Butter London Wink Colour Mascara in Cheerio and matching Wink Eye Pencil combo is insane. I have no words. It's like my eyes are little sunbeams.

Money Green

I like green on my money, and that's about it. But this Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash in 4 and Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in 16L pairing is hitting. The yellow-green liner has a sheen that gets picked up and reflected by the forest green mascara, which is good because by itself the mascara doesn't stand out on my dark lashes. The liner is waterproof, so it stays in place while the mascara gives those lashes major curl.

Popping Pink

Here's where stuff started to get weird, but in a good way. I liked the duo of Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara in It-Pink and Butter London Wink Eye Pencil in Pistol Pink, but Anne-Marie said it looked like an eye infection. Olivia also couldn’t hold a conversation with me without being creeped out, but a little part of me liked the way my lashes popped. Still, don't expect to see me wearing these two in public any time soon. I would wear just the mascara, though, especially because it has a water-soluble formula that makes it easy to remove.

This By Terry Mascara Terrybly in Purple Success and By Terry Crayon Khol Terrybly in Purple gave me the same effect as the green. It’s there, but it doesn't pop enough.

True to Blue

College days are here again. I could honestly see myself wearing this NYX Color Mascara in Blue and NYX Retractable Eye Liner in Deep Blue until the end of time. After all, the fashion world is embracing blue as the new black, so the trend should trickle down to beauty any second now.

What do you think of matching colored mascara and eyeliner? Would you try any of these colors? What kind of brightly colored makeup did you experiment with in college?
