Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
To be totally honest with you guys, I’m not really a diehard vegan. Though I’d love to be 100% cruelty-free and animal-product free in every area of my life, I try to be realistic when it comes to my personal limits; I would rather do my best all of the time then limit myself constantly and eventually crash and burn (as I have in the past via Ben & Jerry’s binges). I eat and shop vegan 95% of the time, but every once in a while, I’ll make an informed exception, and I feel OK about that if they keep me from fully falling off the wagon.
That said, full veganism is getting less and less daunting as more wonderful, ethical products, restaurants, bakeries and clothing brands emerge, and things I never thought I’d be able to enjoy again are popping up vegan all over the place, even in cosmetics.
It's not too hard to find great natural and cruelty-free lipsticks these days, but finding a totally vegan lip colour without any bee ingredients is a whole other battle. Personally, I still use bee-byproduct items sparingly, though some vegans say this renders me just vegetarian (I’m not that big into labels anyway, so that’s OK with me.)
For those who avoid bee products, however, for allergy reasons, environmental reasons, vegan reasons or otherwise, the world of lipsticks is extremely limited, as almost every product on the market is made with beeswax. Other types of vegetable-derived waxes are used in some formulas, but usually in addition to beeswax. With such slim pickings, the world of pure veganism can seem a little hopeless for lipstick lovers.
Luckily, a brand called Lippy Girl is bringing the colour back to vegan lips everywhere!
Based out of Whistler, BC (go Canada!), Lippy Girl is a small, cruelty-free company with only a handful of all-natural, handmade products. Focused mostly on lip products, Lippy Girl makes glosses, shimmers, a line of organic lipsticks with beeswax, and a line of lip colours with no animal byproducts whatsoever, not even the bee stuff: Vegocentric Organic Vegan Lipstick.
With carnauba wax, jojoba oil, castor seed oil and shea butter, these lipsticks are even packed in super-cute recyclable metal tubes. The best part? There are so many gorgeous colours!
Discovering this line made me feel like I had just visited my first-ever fully vegan restaurant: finally, a place where I could order anything on the menu! The line has eight classic colours and four special-edition shades on rotation, all of which have great pigment and staying power.
I took a handful of shades for a spin.
