Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
If you have short hair and an overwhelming need for a last-minute Halloween costume that barely requires dressing up, you've come to the right place.
I love the idea of going as Garance Doré, or any popular street style photographer, because there are so many pros: you'll be warm and cozy in your own clothes all night (you can even wear a coat!), you don't need any elaborate makeup or a wig, and you can use the camera you're carrying around to take pictures of the night's festivities.
The only con is that you'll probably have to explain your costume a lot, but honestly, that has been my cross to bear almost every Halloween, so it doesn't bother me too much.
Here's how to turn yourself into this stylish French photographer/blogger for $0 in 10 minutes--assuming you own the following.
- A dark, wavy pixie cut and some styling product
- Natural makeup (brow gel, BB cream or foundation, brown eyeliner, and lipstick)
- Stereotypical French clothes, such as a trench coat and striped shirt
- Sunglasses (optional)
- A DSLR
Garance doesn't seem to wear a ton of makeup. To copy her low-maintenance beauty look, I stuck to just four products.
First, to fake flawless skin, I buffed L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup in Porcelain/Light Ivory onto my skin using a kabuki brush (which I find gives the lightest, most natural-looking coverage).
EYES, BROWS & LIPS
Then I lightly filled in my brows with e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit and lined my upper lash line with e.l.f. Essential Liquid Eyeliner in Coffee. Finally, since I noticed that Garance usually sports a natural lip color, I used NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm for a warm nude lip.
HAIR & STYLE Last was recreating the most important part of the look: Garance's chic new chop.
I did my best to make my pixie resemble hers by dyeing it slightly darker (mine's been kind of brassy lately) with my usual box dye: L'Oreal Superior Preference in 5A (Medium Ash Brown). Out of the shower, I raked in a bunch of Lush Dirty Hair Cream for effortless, air-dried waves.
Then I threw on my striped shirt and trench coat. I would have grabbed a camera, if I wasn't using it to, you know, take these pictures.
You could also switch out the nude lip for bold red lipstick, which is the only other lip color that I've seen Garance wear occasionally. I used Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Always Red.
All that's left to add is a pair of large statement sunglasses (mine are Warby Parker's The Madison).
- What do you think? I mean, if you mentally add the DSLR and some menswear shoes (a Doré signature), do I resemble Garance Doré here?
- Would you go as her for Halloween, or is your style more Man Repeller?
- Should I be Bill Cunningham next year?
