Which Beyoncé-Inspired Makeup Should I Wear to the Formation Concert?

Let me upgrade my look.

Beyoncé and I go way back. I first got in to her music when I was horribly depressed and going through the worst breakup of my life. This was also around the time I got into makeup. For this exact reason, Beyoncé has always been major beauty inspiration to me. I've studied her looks more than anyone else's.

The first time I saw Beyoncé in concert was in March 2014, and it was a life-changing experience. I didn't shut up about it until I saw her a second time, six months later in Paris. Her shows are, by far, the best shows I have seen in my life (and I have seen over 200 acts perform).

This weekend, I'm seeing Beyoncé for the third time, and of course, major occasions like this require some makeup planning.

Obviously, I'm doing my makeup Beyoncé-style, but I haven't decided which era of Bey I'm going for. I'm taking inspiration options from three of my favorite looks of hers.

Upgrade U

The "Upgrade U" video is one of my favorites. Fur coats, glitter, glamour? Yes, please! The video is from 2006, before the winged-liner craze. Bey is sporting a thick cat-eye with several lip colors.

I like to keep my base very simple these days, so I just opted for a CC cream and spot-concealed where necessary. On the eyes I used my Catrice Waterproof Liquid Liner to create a thick winged line. On the lower lash line, I applied my beloved Catrice Kohl Kajal White Eye Pencil to open up my eye. For more drama and glamour, I topped it off with false lashes.

Contouring wasn't as big back in 2006, and I'm sort of over it anyway, so on my face I only applied Dripping in Gold and Sunburst from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit.

Beyoncé is sporting several lip colors in the video, but her sparkly lip gloss is by far my favorite. What ever happened to sparkly lip gloss anyway? I used my Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Celeste. This plumping lip gloss is super-sparkly and I love it so much!

In the video for "Jealous," Beyoncé wears a seemingly bare face with super-dark lipstick.

On the skin, I only used the smallest amount of CC cream for a natural finish. To enhance my lit-from-within glow, I applied my Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Cream underneath my CC cream. I took some artistic liberties in the brow area since I really dislike the look of light brows on me, so I filled them in like I always do.

On the eyes, I applied Force of Nature from my Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette and blended that all the way out. The eyes need to look a bit undone because the lipstick is the focus in this look, so this eyeshadow is really simple.

Beyoncé has a really glossy lid going on in the video, which is probably achieved by applying Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream over the lid. I tried that back in the day, but it just messes with my makeup too much. To create a wet-look effect that looks pretty all day, I dabbed some of my ColourPop highlighter in Lunch Money on the middle of my lid.

To finish, I applied some mascara, only on the top lashes. On the lips I applied NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu.

Superbowl 2016

For Beyoncé's second performance in the Superbowl half-time show, she really went all out. She wore a metallic lip, supported by a mauve eyeshadow look with gold in the middle.

Because this is quite a heavy look, I applied a bit more base makeup. I applied my CC cream with a stippling brush for a thicker coverage, spot-concealed where necessary, and set everything with powder. I used a very small amount of my Milani Baked Blush in Rose D'Oro and highlighted with Sunburst and Bubbly from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit.

For the eyes I basically just followed Kristina's tutorial for the purple row in the Tarte Tartelette palette, except that in the middle of the lid, I applied Bubbly from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit on a wet brush and I used black eyeshadow instead of liquid eyeliner to tightline.

The brown, almost gold metallic lipstick Beyoncé wore looked quite similar to my Milani Amore Mattalic Lip Crème in Matterialistic. To make it a bit more golden, I took Bubbly once more and dusted it over my lipstick.
