Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
For oily or combination skin types like me, long-wear makeup is essential in the summer AND the winter. The wind chill and dryness beckons everything from parched skin to smudged makeup.
To survive another round of frigid temperatures on the east coast, I’ve tried and tested nine products to keep your face looking flawless.
For Your Base..
1. Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30
This has become my Holy Grail moisturizer/sunscreen! It smoothes out my skin before I apply mattifying foundation (see below), protects my face from the sun, and keeps me hydrated but not oily-looking.
2. Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation
My face immediately gets sweaty if I’ve been walking a lot outside and suddenly step into a room where the heat is on very high, so a long-lasting, mattifying foundation is very important for me. This recently purchased gem works ridiculously well at keeping my otherwise bare face (no primer, no sunscreen, etc) almost matte for 11 hours. I set this with Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder to get the most mileage out of the foundation.
3. Make Up For Ever Full Cover Waterproof Concealer
Although I find this concealer to be too drying for my entire under-eye area, it’s really amazing at covering my mini eye bags and staying put throughout the day. Even when layered over poor-performing foundations, this has always managed to outlast them by hours.
For Your Eyes...
4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius Clear Waterproof Top Coat
Ever wonder why your eyes tear up for no reason during the winter? It’s because they’re dry, and you can blame the wind and cold air for that. To deal with the unexpected teariness, I always wear waterproof mascara. This one is my fave because it goes on clear over any mascara and it really seals the color. I wore this mascara during a painful, tearful trip to the dentist and emerged sans raccoon eyes.
5. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner In Dark Brow
Everyone raves about this liner, and rightly so; it lasts all day without smudging. This, along with Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner, is the only liquid liner I’ve ever used that didn’t end up smearing at the end of the day.
6. Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick In Burnished Bronze
Although I will always stay loyal to shadow primer, my cream shadows significantly get more use during the winter. I need ones that won’t migrate to the surface my contacts throughout the day. (Yes, this has happened before.) This eye color stick glides effortlessly across my lids, and after setting, it stays put on my skin all day.
7. Maybelline Color Tattoo By Eye Studio In Bad to the Bronze
For a drugstore product, Maybelline Color Tattoos are wonderful cream shadows. They generally stay on my lids for the whole day without creasing--no primer necessary. They also act as a good base for other eye makeup. They’re comparable to Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams, but I find that Aqua Creams are a bit more spreadable.
For Your Cheeks...8. Make Up For Ever HD Blush
Since my cheeks can get dry during the winter, I prefer to use a cream blush over a powder blush. Plus, I can’t get enough of the soft, natural look of cream blushes. I like that Make Up For Ever HD Blushes are easy to apply with your fingers and have a powder finish. The shade 310 lasts 12 hours on me.
For Your Lips...
9. Too Faced La Crème Lipstick
Too Faced La Crème Color Drenched Lip Creams are by far the most hydrating lipsticks I’ve ever used. I like that the consistency is creamy but not waxy, since waxy lip products tend to dry my lips out, and it isn't too sticky. This color, Spice Spice Baby, a nude pink, lasts about four hours on me. My other favorite hydrating lipsticks are Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks and Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencils, which both have great pigmentation and staying power. The Too Faced Liquified Melted Lipsticks are also very opaque and long-wearing, but they’re not as hydrating due to their non-stick finish.
