The 10 Best And Worst Beauty Products I've Ever Bought

We've all splurged on things we regret, but then there are the pleasant surprises--the products we take a chance on, fall in love with, and stay loyal to forever and ever. Here are five of the former and five of the latter from my beauty stash.

The Five Best Products I've Ever Purchased 1. YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat, $45

Everyone writes about this stuff, and for good reason. I swear I’ve tried a dozen fancy foundations and this is the one for me. It has SPF, it gives perfectly dewy coverage, and its blends well with my favorite under-eye concealer. I've had it for three months and I'm only halfway through the bottle, which is amazing. In short, sweeping this super lightweight foundation all over my face feels like magic.

2. Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer, $21

This has become my go-to concealer for the past year. I have it in two colors--one for my super pale winter/spring skin and a darker tone for when I’m nice and tan in the summer. I blend it with a stippling brush and cover it with a finishing powder and I'm golden.

3. Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara, $33

I swear I’ve tried every fancy mascara out there, but this is hands down my favorite. It curls, lengthens, and adds amazing volume. Apparently there’s some lash protection, too. It lasts a surprisingly long time, which is awesome for my wallet.

4. Stila Custom Color Blush, $20

I’m IN LOVE with Stila Custom Color Blush. There isn’t a single blush I’ve come across since that I love more. It adjusts to your PH levels and blends flawlessly with every skin tone. Sheer pink is my H.G. shade.

5. Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up!, $30

I got this little number as a sample from Sephora a few years ago and became completely obsessed. The soft Champagne shimmer yields the perfect healthy glow. The packaging, as with every product from Benefit Cosmetics, is incredible. This is something I will repurchase again and again.

The Five Worst Products I've Ever Purchased 1. Biotherm Clarifying Toner for Normal/Combo Skin, $23

This was a nightmare. I was convinced by a Sephora employee that this toner would be gentle and non-drying. That was not the case at all. It fried my face, completely dried it out. My skin was left worse than I’d ever seen it. Ditched this stuff REAL quick and went for Mario Badescu Aloe Vera Toner, which helped clean that mess right up.

2. Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 Waterproof Mascara, $33

I LOVE the normal version of this so I decided to try out the waterproof option. It wasn’t a week before I exchanged it for the non-waterproof. It clumped and stuck my lashes together. Gross.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll, $30

I wanted to love this, I really did, but it dried out way too fast (you’re supposed to clean the brush every week, too) and it didn’t add the volume I’ve gotten out of other mascaras. The packaging is gorgeous, so it really does suck that this has such a poor formula.

4. Malin and Goetz Eucalyptus Deodorant, $20

The smell of this was very boyish and green, but I liked it. The problem is, I sweat like mad even when I have it on. To be fair, they do warn you about this, but I had a bigger problem with my skin breaking out into painful cysts (which had NEVER happened before). I couldn’t deal and tossed it. I’ve since switched to Green Beaver Citrus Deodorant and I love it.

5. Benefit Cosmetics Some Kind-A-Gorgeous, $30

The packaging for this is absolutely gorgeous, which is what got me at first. I mean, it’s a tiny little record. How adorable is that? Somehow this product claims to be oil-free, but I’ve never experienced such oily, heavy-feeling makeup. It must have completely clogged my pores because I broke out like crazy after using this. Suffice it to say, I tossed it. Not a very fun experience for 40 bucks.
