Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
Recently, I wrote about downsizing my makeup collection, and
you asked for MOAR DETAILS! What were the 10 products I kept, and why?
Well, I’m happy to break it down for you. Here’s what made the cut.
Bite Beauty Luscious Lip Tints in Tangelo (1) a bright
orangey-coral, Juice (2) a warm pink, and Lychee (3) a gorgeous pale nude, stayed
with me because they are moisturizing and contain tons of antioxidants that
take care of your lips as well like you do for your skin. They’re also sheer,
so they are easy to touch up with a quick swipe--no lip brush or mirror
I layer them over my favorite lip balm from Caudalie (4); it seals
in moisture and is a little on the waxy side, which makes helps it act much
like a lip primer to help color last longer.
For my cheeks, the one and only Josie Maran Cheek Gelee in
Honeymoon Honey (5) is the perfect muted, glowy shade for my skin. It looks
stunningly natural and is long lasting.
On my eyes I wear MAC eye shadow in Sable (6), a barely there warm
golden brown that adds a little polish, or Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to
The Bronze (7) if I want a more shimmery shade that is still fairly subtle and
lasts forever and ever amen.
I’ll top it off with Tarte’s Skinny Smoldereyes
Amazonian Clay (8) eyeliner in Onyx, a jet-black pencil that applies sooooo
smoothly and never fades--plus it comes with a built in smudger sponge on the
I fill in my brows with NARS eye shadow in Bali (9), an ashy dark
brown that matches my hair color perfectly, and then swipe on a coat of
Maybelline Full N’ Soft mascara (10), the one I always come back to no matter
what formula I try.
And that’s it. But why did all these products make the cut?
Besides the benefits I mentioned above, they are all incredibly versatile. I
can use just these ten products to create all kinds of different looks; from minimal and natural to a sexy, smoky eye, these products take me through
Here are my top five looks to create with only my mini-stash:
Look 1: I Was Supposed To Leave For Work Five Minutes Ago
Products used: 4, 5, 9, 10
I am always running late.
But even when my phone alarm goes off to tell me I should be halfway to the
office already, I can’t leave my apartment without just a little makeup.
days I just fill in my brows, swipe on some mascara, and a pinch of gel blush.
Toss my lip balm in my bag, and I’m good to go. This bare minimum is actually my
most worn look, and is still enough to keep me looking pretty and
Look 2: Hey QT
Products used: 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10
I wear almost only black or white clothing, so when I want a
little color, I turn to this adorable look. Inspired by Mari’s
two-tone blush, I
apply my cheek gelee on the top half of my cheeks and then dab some of my Bite
Lip Tint in Tangelo under my cheekbone.
The same color goes on my lips for a
monochromatic look. I sweep a little MAC eyeshadow in Sable all over my lids to
add a little depth, and finish with a coat of mascara. The look is sweet and
cheerful and saves me from people calling me goth-y in my all-black ensembles.
Look 3: I Woke Up Like This
Products used: 3, 4, 7, 9, 10
This look is one of the quickest ways to get an effortless,
With my finger, I swipe Maybelline’s Bad to The Bronze over my
entire eyelid. Then, with the leftover shadow that is on my finger, I gently
tap my cheekbones to turn the cream shadow into a highlighter. On me, it gives
a similar effect to Benefit’s Watts Up. If you have much lighter skin than me,
though, this particular shade may be too dark.
I finish this look off by
filling my brows with Bali, and then wetting my angled liner brush. With the
same eyeshadow, I line my upper lash line super thin, ending in a very subtle
I finish the look with Bite’s Lychee lip tint to keep the focus on the,
ahem, natural glow and shimmer of my eyes.
Look 4: Oh, You Fancy, Huh?
Products used: 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10
My favorite look for special occasions is this fourth look.
It is still very natural and subtle but makes me feel a little extra glamorous.
I pop some Tarte eyeliner on my upper lash line (and upper waterline) over a
wash of Bad to the Bronze, fill in my brows a little more heavily than usual,
do a second coat of mascara, and finish with Honeymoon Honey on the cheeks and
Juice on the lips: just enough to look incredible in a dress.
Look 4: Don’t Even F*%! With Me
Products used: 3, 4, 5/6, 7, 8, 9, 10
When I need to walk out the door look and feeling like a Bad
Bitch, I turn to this look.
It starts with a wash of shadow--either Sable or
Bad To The Bronze will work--and liner on the upper lash line and the outer
half of the lower lid. I smudge that out
a bit and blend some Bali on my outer lid, Italian style. It’s an idiot-proof smoky eye that anyone can get the hang of.
I round this
look out with a tiny bit of cheek gelee only underneath the cheekbones and
Lychee lip tint.
Nothing says “Tonight is my night, and if you mess with me, I will
destroy you” more clearly.
It really doesn’t take an extensive makeup wardrobe to pull
of a huge variety of looks; in fact, I think I’ve come up with more new and
interesting ideas now that my limited stash has forced me to think more
creatively. Never did I think I could still pull off this many distinct looks
with only 10 products, but anything is possible, my beautiful munchkins!
