It's gonna get sappy up in here.
It's September, and here in the Northern hemisphere, that means the season of Autumn is quickly falling upon us. It's starting to get dark out earlier, and air is a little bit chillier (albeit still horribly humid), and back-to-school commercials have been repeating on my TV for weeks.
While I'm going to miss the Summertime terribly, I have a fondness in my heart for the Fall. It's a time of chunky cable knit sweaters, new TV seasons ("Boardwalk Empire," return to me!), pumpkin lattes, my birthday, Halloween, Canadian Thankskgiving (it's in October) and eating my weight in pie. And of course, a new season of beauty.
It's time to try out a new load of products, switch out my nail colours and change up my hairdos. It's a fresh start! It's back-to-school for grown-ups! And I am going to have plenty of suggestions for you to take on this time of year while looking fabulous.
First off, one of my favourite things to try this time of year. Dark berry lipstick. It's such a multitasking product, you can wear it not only on your lips, but your cheeks and eyes too. And the blue-toned, purple-y shade is so perfect for Fall, kind of moody and dark but really feminine and retro too. Ahhh.
For your lips
Apply with a brush, then blot. Apply another layer, then blot again. For extra-protection against colour bleed, apply a bit of concealer around the edges of your mouth before starting. It creates a nice little barrier.
For your eyes
You can just use your finger for this. I find this shade looks best blended out under the lower lashline, and in the crease and outer corners of the upper lid. It looks particularly nice with blue or green eyes because it really contrasts the shades and makes them "pop," so to speak.
For your cheeks
Use your finger to blend a drop of moisturizer and some of the lipstick on the back of your hand. Apply to mixture to the apples of your cheeks for a rosy-tinted cream blush.
