Lipstick is patient, lipstick is kind... No, wait, that's love. Oh, but who am I kidding? Lipstick is love. It breathes new life into your face, gives you confidence, doesn't get jealous, and can pick up right where you left off if you take a break from it for a while. That's love, right?

Either way, lipstick is deserving of its own national holiday, and conveniently, someone already thought of that and convinced someone in Congress to be like, "Yeah, cool, totally." So, in addition to being Lasagna Day, Chicken Wing Day, and Rain Day, today is officially National Lipstick Day.

And thus, an xoJane roundup is born. Here are the current favorite lipsticks of many xoJane editors and regular contributors, starting with yours truly.

I'm currently loving Clarins Rouge Eclat Satin Finish Age-Defying Lipstick in Juicy Clementine. It's about as perfect as an orange-red lipstick can get, and a more opaque alternative to my other favorite orange-red, L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick in Fiery Veil, which is glossier. (I'm also wearing it as cream blush in this photo, and I'm talking about that on xoVain today.)

This is Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Lover. People stop me to tell me how it is THE perfect red lipstick for me. It is MY red. It is the only lipstick I have ever loved and it is cruelly discontinued. I am down to my last dried-out tube. (I hoarded them all, but alas, all good things...)

Laura Mercier Pink Champagne [now called Sparkling Pink]. You think it's going to be too subtle but the color makes your entire face pop.

I always go back to MAC Lady Danger -- it's a classic orangey-red and so vibrant. The newer Relentlessly Red has become a close competitor though -- it's one of the "Vintage Mattes" and a pretty pink red.

If you can get past the sunburn, you'll see my go-to lip color -- Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in Sugar Passion. Lipstick's a little too high maintenance for me because I'm the laziest person on the planet. This sheer lip treatment is perfect because I can swipe it on without a mirror, it moisturizes, and it has SPF 15. That's right: I can manage to apply sunscreen to my lips -- just not on my shoulders. Seriously though, I love this in almost every shade, and it's well worth the $22.50.

MAC Chili. It's a matte, bright, orangey brick red that reads a lot softer and casual (as casual as bright red lipstick can be, I guess) than truer reds on me since it complements my warm skin tone. It's my daily red for feeling like my face game is clutch but I'm not trying to be all, "Hey, come admire my lips and face!" Must be worn with lip balm underneath.

I'm a big fan of Entourage from Lipstick Queen's Velvet Rope Collection. It's a dark wine on the bullet and goes on a little more berry-ish. It's super-creamy, so it doesn't dry out and gives you big color payoff with only one or two passes. It's the perfect Khloe K dark lipstick, and it makes me want to go even darker, and also google "at home lip injections." If anyone has seen my top lip, let me know.

Jennifer (Jane's assistant!)

I used to never wear lipstick (only gloss). But now I use the Bobbi Brown color Brownie. I read an interview with Bobbi Brown last year and she said that Brownie was the first color she ever invented and it's great for everyday use. I bought it without trying it on (just based on Bobbi's suggestion). At first, I thought I wasted $30 because its brown and brown is not really in...but I love it and use it every day for work.

Sephora's Cream Lip Stain in 01 (Always Red) has been my constant for three or four years now. It's a true, blue-based red, and while it's matte, I don't find it super-drying. I love its staying power, and that I can afford to repurchase it every time I run out or misplace it. (It's the only lip color I've repurchased. I've repurchased it six times. Yes, I keep track of these things. You don't?)

I love BITE's High Pigment Pencil in Meritage. It's pretty subtle but makes my lips look extra-slutty, but not in an obvious I HAVE DSLs kinda way. The lip also goes really well with my new POLICE OFFICER SUNGLASSES, that are the beginning of my Fall '14 Cop Look.

My favorite current lipstick obsesh is Revlon's Matte Balm in 205/Elusive. I'm too pale to wear beige-y tones or light-light pinks, but I love pink in general. This is the perfect cross between looking semi-natural-ish while still providing enough color to make me look like I'm among the living.

My current summer lipstick obsession is Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color in Don't Blink Pink. It's a matte, literally stay-on-all-day punch of hot pink, for only $2!

My current favorite everyday combo is MAC Lip Pencil in Lasting Sensation with NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel. The lip pencil is a crazy kind of old lady coral pink, and the gloss is a subtle peachy color that kind of brings it all back to reality.

I own 70 lipsticks that cost $25 or more, but the one I always get compliments on is this el cheapo CoverGirl Blast Flipstick in shade 805 (Pucker). It stays on forever, and I only found it because I accidentally left my personal holy grail lipstick, NARS Schiap, at home on a trip. Drugstore score!

I've been trying this weird thing where I put on a sparse-ish layer of CoverGirl in Hot Passion, then apply Benetint lip stain in Cha-Cha (for more orange) or Rose over it. Gives it more staying power and feels a bit less intense for day wear.

Forever favorite: MAC's Ruby Woo. Right now favorite: Kat Von D's Slayer. Apparently I only like red or black.

Urban Decay's Super Saturated Pencil in F Bomb is still a favourite of mine. It looks like the blood in bad horror movies. And yes I am copping a feel on myself in that photo.

My absolute favourite, like Emily, is MAC's Lady Danger. It's the perfect orange-toned red for me; I find it brightens my skin and makes my eyes seem that little bit more rested. I tend to rely on it if I want to feel instantly better, brighter and more confident. It's not my everyday lippie, but a constant handbag staple.

I normally don't wear lipstick because I like to focus more on my eye makeup, but when I do, I always gravitate towards a nude or rosy pink. This "POW" shade from Marc Jacobs is so perfect. It goes on matte and makes my lips look really smooth. Love!

Alrighty, y'all, time for you to show and tell us what your current favorite is. Let loose in the comments!
