She's always been one of my favorite villains, and now she's one of my favorite Halloween costumes.
I love Stranger Things (a sentiment many of you will agree with, I'm sure). I particularly love the character Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.
I also love any Halloween costume that requires you to have a buzz cut.
Eleven is the perfect Halloween costume to try this year, as long as you don't mind buzzing your hair very short (if it isn't already). She's instantly recognizable if you do it right, and honestly, it's pretty simple to get it right.
- A blonde wig (optional, but this could also be your excuse to not shave your head)
- Very short brown hair
- An outfit consisting of a white Peter Pan collar, pink top/dress, and blue jacket
- Dark matte eyeshadow
- Fake blood
- At least one box of Eggos (optional but encouraged)
First things first: the hair. If you don't already have a buzz cut, feel free to watch my recent head-shaving video (or my other head-shaving video) or Millie Bobby Brown's head shaving video for some inspiration!
Next is the clothes. I went to my local Salvation Army to find Eleven's outfit. I was prepared to go back a few times to find everything I needed, but in the end, I was lucky enough to find everything in one day. Just prepare to be creative. I couldn't find a pink dress with a white Peter Pan collar, so instead I bought a white button-down with a Peter Pan collar and layered a pink top over that.
If you want to recreate Eleven's entire look, I think it would be fun to wear a blonde wig (like the one Mike gives her) at first and then take it off with a flourish later to reveal your kickass Eleven buzz cut. (Or wear it the whole night if you're just not ready to shave your head.)
Side note: I thought it was kind of hilarious how at first Eleven's wig looks exactly how you'd expect a cheap wig found in a kid's basement to look, but then when she put it on it was magically transformed into a very realistic (and expensive) looking wig. That girl truly does have powers.
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is don't worry if your wig looks like crap. You probably don't have the budget of a Netflix TV show, and that's OK.
The biggest impact this costume can have happens when the wig comes off. I already had the haircut and the outfit, so I just had to add a few finishing touches.
First, I smudged some dark matte eyeshadow around my face to make it look kind of dirty the way Eleven's did later on in the series.
Then I grabbed a waffle, because duh. It's the best prop ever. If you get hungry, you have a snack right there. It's method acting!
For the finishing touch, I added some fake blood under my nose. I didn't have any fake blood around so I had to use whatever I had on hand, which turned out to be a mix of ketchup and barbecue sauce to get the right shade.
I'd recommend buying some actual fake blood for this because that concoction was not fun to have right under my nose; I had to breathe out of my mouth the whole time.
Oh and make sure to work on your intense gaze.
Et voila! Your transformation into Eleven is complete. You look pretty. I mean, pretty good.
- Is anyone planning to be Eleven or someone else from Stranger Things for Halloween? Who here is going as Barb?
- Would you ever be willing to shave your head for a Halloween costume?
- Consider this a safe space to talk about Stranger Things if you'd like!
