Glamorous Holiday Makeup On A Budget

You can look like a million bucks without having to spend a million bucks.

I love the holidays because of the sheer amount of opportunities to get dressed up. Sadly, it’s a cruel twist of fate that the holidays demand all of my money for gifts (I come from a large family), leaving none for Tom Ford lipstick and Christian Louboutin nail polish.

But it IS possible to put together a glamorous beauty look for the holidays using only drugstore products--and nobody will be any the wiser.

Step 1: Face and brows

For the base of this look, I used my e.l.f. Eyebrow Kit in Medium to fill in my brows, and L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation in W1-2 (Porcelain/Light Ivory) for a clear, bright complexion. I applied it with the foundation brush side of a double-sided Sonia Kashuk brush for full coverage.

Step 2: Eyes

Next I wanted some eye drama, so I used the eye shadow end of my Sonia Kashuk brush to apply NYX Baked Shadow in Kush to my mobile lids. I wanted green shadow, but an understated olive green that doesn’t scream Christmas--which is exactly what this one is.

Then I lined my upper lash line with e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner in Coffee, adding just the smallest flick at the end, and went over that line with e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner in Copper for a touch of gold glitter. I also applied some of the glittery Copper in the inner corners of my eyes.

Lastly, I swiped on some CoverGirl Remarkable Professional Washable Waterproof Mascara. It’s not the most dramatic mascara, but it makes my lashes look longer and prettier--and I didn’t want to distract from the rest of my eye makeup.

Step 3: Lips

For my lips, I used Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rum Raisin, a creamy brown-tinted red. To update its very ‘90s vibe and add some extra glamour, I had the idea to layer NYX Wicked Lippie in Mischievous on top. It’s a shimmery, slightly opaque gold.

Step 4: Nails

For gold nails, I’ve really been loving the Nicole by OPI Polish in On A Gilt Trip that I got in an Ipsy bag. On its own it’s almost gritty, and not completely matte because of the glitter but it has a sort of flat effect. With Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat on top, it has a deeper, richer gleam.

Step 5: Finishing touches

To finish it up, I put on a gold sequined dress and pushed my messy hair back with a gold headband that I found at Ulta for $10. Obviously the theme here was SHINY GOLD EVERYTHING.
