VIDEO: Holiday Barbie Makeup How-To

Come on, Barbie. Let's go party.

Hi everyone! Welcome to this week's video. My sparkly heart is ESPECIALLY stoked to share this eye look with you today, because it might be my favorite of the year! Also, there's singing. Watch, watch, watch!

In case you can't watch the video right now, here is my inspiration: Holiday Barbie 2014.

I'm not blonde--except for my roots--but I'm also not made of plastic. I trust you can use your imaginations for us both as we forge ahead! I trust you will ALSO forgive me for the terrible joke I make in the first minute of this video.

Hair (0:52)

Like Holiday Barbie, my hair is curled for volume and shape and then pulled back into an asymmetrical half-up style.

Products used: Kevin Murphy body-builder Volumizing Mousse (ahead of time), Hot Tools 2" curling iron, TIGI Bed Head Hard Head hairspray, a hair tie, and a bobby pin that matches your hair color.

Skin (1:36)

Barbie is wearing some SERIOUS blush, which I had a mighty need to recreate. I also wanted to suggest a high shine plastic finish with a super-shimmery highlight.

Products used: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation, Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer and HD Finishing Powder, Lorac Baked Matte Satin blush in Flaunt, Make Up For Ever Shine On Powder in shade 3.

Eyes (2:14)

OH GOD, THIS IS SO GOOD. Maybe the best eye makeup I've done since Halloween.

Products used: Bare Minerals Eye Color in True Gold (all over shadow), Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Perversion (corner and crease), Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy (eye-safe sparkle!), LORAC Front of the Line Pro liquid liner, Eylure 100 lashes cut in half and glued to the outer corner, Diorshow mascara, MAC Technakohl eyeliner in Cast Iron (underneath), Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony (eyebrows), Max Factor Eye Shadow in Wild White (brow highlight).

Lips (3:24)

What could be more festive than bright red lips? Also: where's Ken?

Products used: MAC lip pencil in Lasting Sensation, MAC lipstick in MAC Red.

And now I am ready to get ~*festive*~

I was never much of a Barbie girl growing up--I was much more into My Little Pony--but this Holiday Barbie look is making me rethink that stance. Who knows what other awesome looks I was missing out on?

  • So tell me: were you a Barbie fan growing up?
  • Are you as stoked as I am about all gold-and-red everything?
  • Do YOU want sparkly eyelids? I kind of want this to be my day to day look now!
