Mud-Poo: My Dirty Little Way Of Celebrating Earth Day

So, Mud-Poo is a thing--a thing that sounds very unappetizing--and I totally tried it in honor of Earth Day. All hail Gaia.

Obviously, Earth Day is all about celebrating our tiny blue and green planet. Some people plant trees, some people push away the meat dishes, some people appreciate the flora with a more spirited sense of reverie. I, on the other hand, decided to cover my entire head in actual bottled mud.

I used super-fancy Moroccan mud that smelled like clementines courtesy of Shea Terra Organics. Their Moroccan Mud-Poo Hair Wash, which is 100% natural and comes "straight from Earth to your head," is especially fitting for a holiday intended to celebrate this planet. It contains only the following ingredients: USDA certified organic, 100% pure leaf aloe vera, Moroccan mud, Kalahari mineral salts and clementine essential oil. It doesn't get much more natural than that, folks.

I'm going to confess something: this Mud-Poo has been sitting in my shower for a little while now. I once reached for it and pumped some of the product into my hand, only to swiftly nope away after a brown and slimy substance came out.

Anyway, I eventually mustered up some courage--prompted by Earth Day--and went for it.

Every good beauty story has a before and after. Here's my hair just before washing it.

Here's the product.

It looks majorly unappetizing, no? Like I said before, though, it smells nice: somewhat earthy with a hefty waft of clementine in every inhale. It's quite thin and runny, making it somewhat hard to use.

Anyway, you can see that the product doesn't really look frothy. Aside from the fact that it turned my hair a darker reddish/brown color while it was in, you can't even tell that I have it in my hair.

And here's my hair after it's all been rinsed out and dried for a few minutes.

Rinsing the product out proved somewhat complex. Because it's not frothy and sudsy like other shampoos, it's hard to know whether or not you actually got every single bit of product out of your hair. I was successful, though.

After hopping out of the shower, I noticed that my hair felt slightly fuller and thicker at the roots. Admittedly, my hair did not feel as clean as it does when I use shampoos that lather really well.

Finally, here are some after shots!

My hair looks and feels about the same as it always does after I blow-dry and style. The main differences I noticed compared to using my normal shampoo is that my hair didn't feel quite as "squeaky clean" and it felt slightly thicker/fuller at the top. I have such thick hair already that this was a downside for me, but my hair definitely looks pretty and shiny, so my final verdict is: job well done, Mud-Poo!
