My Hair is Purple Now, Plus COTW!

I had to do it for Prince.

cotw, Manic Panic, purple hair, comment of the week

Thank you to everyone who shared their opinion on my next hair color last week! Two very good arguments convinced me to go with Manic Panic's Velvet Violet from their new Creamtone line: not only will going in this order result in a better shade, but also because as commenter "Christina Robin" wisely said, "It's what Prince would want."

I didn't get the exact shade from the jar because I was putting it on top of a faded mix of pink and peach, and also because I diluted it a little bit with some conditioner (I really wanted a pale lavender — nothing too dark) and mixed it with some Blue Angel as a few commenters advised. I'm sure you'd get a much deeper violet if you didn't dilute it and used it on level 10 hair.

Here's my result:

I really like how it came out. There's some dark purple, some lighter purple, as well as some pale pink and peach bits still. Personally I prefer a multi-dimensional hair color so I'm totally OK with this.

I'm not sure if I'll do the blue shade, Blue Angel, after this. Honestly I'm starting to get whiplash from my rainbow hair adventure. I think I might do one more fun color after this and then I'll be done for now, but we'll see.

Now it's time for Comments of the Week!

1. "dearsister88" gave the best reason for using stick foundation:

I dig the Maybelline Fit Me foundation stick, but the truth: I'll take any stick foundation. I just want to feel like I'm slathering lipstick all over my face, which is a deep primal urge I've had since I was a kid.

2. Forget about drops that adjust foundation shade; "Julia" had an even better idea:

I want drops that correct the undertone!! I usually don't have a problem finding products that match the shade of my skin (thanks, white privilege), but I can't find a shade that matches my weird undertone (instead of being neutral, it's both warm and cool?

3. I can sympathize with "Kayla" because I too wish my various roommates had a silent blowdryer:

I wish my freshman year college roommate had that hair dryer, but nooo, she just had to wake me up every morning drying her hair before her 8AM class. I don't know why I'm still bitter about this but I am.

4. "theprettiestkatie" shared her mother's excellent approach to allowing kids to wear makeup:

I was a theatre/dance kid, so I had my own box of bright red lipstick and blue eyeshadow by the time I was 10. I was allowed to start wearing makeup on a daily basis on my 13th birthday, but only after I spent all my birthday money on skincare items and got lessons from the lady at the Clinique counter on how to take off my makeup and take care of my face. The agreement was that the moment I was caught sleeping in my mascara, my whole makeup collection would disappear. I think it was a rational approach, and I am obsessive about skincare to this day. #thanksmom

  • Have you ever tried purple hair?
  • Do you get burnt out if you change your appearance too many times in a row? (I actually found myself missing my boring brown hair the other day — that was weird.)
