Plus a whole lot of hairstyle inspiration!
I tend to wear my hair down most of the time, so when I decide to do something else with it, you know I'm feeling particularly festive. Still, I like to keep things relatively simple and straightforward, lest I send myself into a self-perpetuated conniption. Seriously, there are few times in my life when I actually swear, but I won't deny standing in front of the mirror trying to force a wayward bobby pin to succumb to my sailor-esque pleas.
In any case, here's a five minute, super-easy, super-pretty, wintry, festive hair tutorial for you. Enjoy!
Divide your hair into three sections: two smaller sections on either side and a heftier section in the middle. Secure at the nape of your neck.
Braid one side section. I'm going with a traditional three-strand, but feel free to spice it up.
Drape the braid back and wrap it around the center ponytail. Secure with two criss-crossed bobby pins.
Do the same thing with the other side ponytail. Make sure everything is secure and snug.
Wrap your center ponytail into itself to create a bun. Secure with as many bobby pins as you need, but make sure to keep them tucked out of sight. I took the first picture before I went back in and tucked away little stray fly aways. I used a couple spritzes of hairspray to keep them in place.
To complete the look, add a bit of hair decor to either side of your head. I think larger hair pieces look more organic when they're tucked under the braid. I'm using two gilded, metal feather clips from ModCloth. You can also try this DIY idea from Trista, which turns vintage pieces into gorgeous hair accessories.
And that's it. I told you it was simple!
