Argan Oil: I Jumped On The Bandwagon And Have No Plans To Fall Off

I love argan oil more than anyone else--don't even try to dispute this--and that makes me qualified to publicly recommend my favorite products.

The argan oil revolution has swept me into its army of devotees.

My hair really gets run through the ringer. I'm always bouncing from dry to drier to driest environment, with a respite here and there in a humid place. Unfortunately, I have to change up my products as much as I change flights, to deal with the different atmospheric effects on my hair.

Eric Sebbag, hairstylist to the stars and all-around nice guy, has been a pal since the early ‘90s in South Beach. I saw him in 2008 for a haircut at my house, right after I moved to LA. My hair was certainly NOT HAPPY with the change in humidity, as going from shiny to straw in one month.

As we laughed and caught up, he cut a terrifying amount of fried ends off my hair and started telling me about a wonder product he was developing, using argan oil. He's the latest in a long line of hair professionals in his family (after his dad, grandfather, etc...), and they’ve always used argan oil. He combined it with other essential oil scents, including orange blossom, which I love. (Who doesn’t?)

That’s what put argan oil on the map for me: his Sebbag Essentials oil. Although really yummy smelling and fantastic, it was out of my price range at the time. However, a seed had been planted, and argan oil was to find its way back into my life a few years later.

You would have to be living under a rock not to know about the brand Moroccanoil. It has been in just about every gift bag I’ve gotten since 2010, and that’s how I rediscovered argan oil. They have wonderful products for both body and hair. I really love their Restorative Hair Mask, the Hydrating Styling Cream and the original Moroccanoil Oil Treatment.

The hair mask really does what it says it’s going to: restores, strengthens and moisturizes. My fried hair is very happy when I use it. I use the styling cream when I want a more sleek style, and the oil when I am wearing it naturally. I just wash my hair, scrunch it when I’m toweling it dry, and add some oil to the ends. Boom! Captain Caveman hair. (That's a good thing.)

Luckily, argan oil has become so popular, brands are making affordable options you can buy at your local shop. Organix has come out with a Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil line, including Shampoo, Intense Moisturizing Treatment, Weightless Healing Dry Oil... and travel sizes!

Last, but not least, is a kick-ass product with a double use: Davines Sū/Sun Oil. It’s an argan-based oil for both the hair and skin. It’s meant for beach use, and has UVA and UVB protection, along with vitamin E.

The scent isn’t for everyone--it’s musky and masculine, but I like scents like that. It reminds me of sitting on a boat in Capri, soaked with salt and sweat. Also, it’s super-lightweight, so it doesn’t weigh my fine hair down.

All I know is, my hair has been happier with ANY argan oil treatment. And my hair’s happiness is one of my highest beauty priorities.

Are you guys into argan oil stuff? Tell me your favorites!
