It's gonna get sappy up in here.
One of the few areas of my life where I am willing to take a risk (yes, I am one of those people who has never touched a drug) is with my eyeshadow. It’s not that I’m nostalgic about 1980s "Working Girl" makeup, it’s that I’ve got big eyes, and I’ve always been a believer of highlighting what you’ve got! Not to mention, drawing attention to your eyes is a good way to detract from acne blemishes, which I have had my fair share of.
Given that Rodarte, Prada, Christian Dior, Altuzarra, and, my favorite, Chloé, brought the look back this season with charcoal-like bands across the eyelid, electric teal, reflector-jacket pink, marshy green, and even -- gasp -- lower-lid liner (it doesn’t deserve the tacky rap it’s been given), my flamboyant taste in eye makeup won’t be so out of the ordinary this season. Pair it with a sleek black pant suit (I know it screams Hillary Clinton, but trust me the eyeshadow totally transforms the clothes), an autumn-toned outfit, or cozy sweater dress, and you can easily go from day to night with the same clothes. If you’re still not ready to commit, just buy a single shade, not a palette, like I’ve listed below. Here, see five of my favorites.
Go for the top shelf, because it will last you a lifetime. It also comes with a shadow/liner brush, so you can use this gel-like hue as a shadow and eyeliner. I consider that two in one.
This electric blue color comes in various combinations, from matte to glittery to a highlight texture. And it looks especially alluring with brown or green eyes.
The face of this looks like animal-print. I'm in. You are going to kill it with this smoky eye.
Blend this shimmery Dior purple with other base colors to add dimension to the eye.
Like ordering a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks, swiping on this rusty powder will instantly put you in the fall spirit. It also effuses sophistication, so wear it on a date.
What are your go-to statement eyeshadows? How do you wear them?
