Glamorous product shot

There are beauty products that you like, and then there are beauty products that you depend on. I realized recently that one had become the other, when a Sephora clerk informed me that they were no longer really carrying my Soap and Glory Make Yourself Youthful facial moisturizer.

But it's just a moisturizer, right? I browsed through the many other choices, certain I would find something to love just as much. Then again, I've tried lots of moisturizers. And my moisturizer is just better -- better enough that I'm willing to pay 35 freaking dollars for it and order it online if I have to. I don't want another moisturizer, ever again. The Sephora lady may have pushed me into it, but suddenly I was ready to commit.

The truly indispensable beauty products are few and far between. I mean, I like my brand of liquid eyeliner (Maybelline Line Stiletto), but in a zombie apocalypse I could probably find another one to like just as much. And yes, in a zombie apocalypse, I will most certainly be applying liquid eyeliner, probably just before hitting the zombie bar for a post-apocalyptic relapse.

But I'm sure I'm not the only one who has become so attached to a particular product or brand that they would freak the eff out if it were suddenly unavailable. I've ranked mine on a scale from total rampage to mild freakout below.

Total Rampage

1. Soap and Glory Make Yourself Youthful, $35

See above. I should mention also that it smells really good.

2. Josie Maran Illuminizer, $28

Every time that one of you has commented that I am "glowing"? I'm not glowing. It's this product. It makes your face twinkly!

3. Mac Lady Danger lipstick, $14.50

My perfect vibrant, orange-y red lipstick. I have literally rebought this lipstick because I forgot it at home.

Wearing the shade in brunette-r days.

Partial Destruction

1. Neutrogena makeup remover cleansing towelettes, $6.49

One of the greatest beauty innovations in the past decade, in my opinion. My skin would be a wreck if it wasn't for these, because I am always too lazy to wash my face. And I know there are other brands, but the Neutorgena ones are the best, and this is the best formula (not deep clean, hydrating or night calming).

Mild Freakout

1. Benetint lip and cheek stain, $29

I apply the rose one quite liberally as blush, but I also use posie and high beam from time to time. I adore adore adore this product but I put it under mild freakout because this is the first blush I've ever used, so I'm pretty sure there are others out there that are also good. Fingers crossed, I'll never find out.

2. Sephora brow pencil, $12

I know a lot of people swear by other brow pencil brands, but I've tried a lot of them and still like the Sephora brand one the best. Enough that I would wait it out rather than selecting another if it was out of stock. I use "rich chestnut."

So that's my current line-up of indispensables. What products would you hold up a Sephora for, "John Q"-style?
