YOU ARE THE ADVICE COLUMNIST: Should I Propose To Him?

I'd just as well ask him while we were snuggling in bed.

I'm in my early 30s and for a long time thought I'd be the sassy single gal forever.  Then I met this guy and being with him has made me reassess my views on things. He's so easy to be around and appreciates my quirkiness.  Now I want the whole package with him--babies, marriage, etc.  We've discussed marriage as something we both see in the future, including marriage vs. wedding stuff.
He was married once before and mentioned he didn't want to marry again unless he could enter as an equal partner financially.  He has a good job but it barely pays minimum wage. Not a deal breaker for me,  I make a decent living and don't need a lavish lifestyle.
I'm thinking about proposing to him. If so, do I present him with a ring? Something else?  I'm not big on romantic gestures.  I'd just as well ask him while we were snuggling in bed.
