A new interactive map tracks "hate speech" on Twitter over the past year, and the results look pretty much how you'd expect. Which is exactly why I'm suspicious of them.

racism
Lucy Liu is perfectly happy naming, and talking about, the elephant in the room: racism is a problem in Hollywood.
college
Hey, nothing like trying to make your college campus a better place and getting rape threats for your trouble.
racism
Burnt. Black skin. Dirty. I’ve been called the worst names from fellow Singaporeans.

racism
I am seriously regretting that I didn't at least tell these folks to lower their voices. Their sizeist, racist, classist, awful people voices.
racism
Everything. Everything is wrong with it. Please, somebody post kitten pictures in comments? PLEASE. I AM BEGGING YOU.
how not to be a dick
I’m less concerned about what’s said in front of me than what’s said behind my back or what’s not said at all.

Yesterday would have been Nina Simone's 80th birthday, so I'm telling you about one of my favorite artists ever.

racism
Where she gets off acting like stereotypes and falsehoods are the god given truth is beyond me. She herself is part of a minority group that gets persecuted on the daily on shows like "Fox and Friends."

getting pregnant with michelle tea
Does it seem like I am trying to genetically manipulate myself a strikingly beautiful baby? Because I am. Is that creepy or what?
race

politics
The United States has a very complex and tormented relationship with guns, and a debate format is just really not the best place to be exploring gun policy, gun violence and gun ownership. So I braced myself for a wild ride, and I got one.
racism
Etsy's own policies state that they don't allow items that promote racially motivated hatred. So what's going on here?

hair
Black hair deserves specialized attention and care. But that’s no excuse for an overwhelming number of salons to turn away paying African-American customers.

halloween
All year long I look forward to October because it is the one month where I get to wet-blanket all over everyone’s good time with my annoying cultural analysis.
freedom of speech
The Egyptian journalist, Mona Eltahawy, spray painted over what she deemed a racist and hateful poster, got into an argument with a woman who defended the poster and then got herself arrested. Could you be as badass as Mona Eltahawy?

It horrifies me that we still need to even have this, "Why Lynching Isn't Okay," conversation, but here we go. [WARNING: Violent images in this post may not be work-safe. Or life-safe.]

redface
Romanticizing the culture and traditions of the people your community subjected to genocide is deeply, deeply gross.
