Let us finally retire this idea that women just aren't as visual as men and don't care about looks as much. We do! We do! We just haven't historically and culturally had the same freedom to be as shallow.
Drinking puts you at risk of sexual assault... if you are around a rapist. Of course, it's easy to focus on alcohol as a cause of the campus rape epidemic. Doing so is manageable, it's easy to deal with, and it's gives us a concrete issue to tackle — which is comforting on some level.
If the entire notion of women as the fairer sex and the "prettier" gender disappeared, thus allowing us to be ugly all the time or some of the time without cultural shaming/pity/donning the cloak of invisibility, what would it be like?
Women aren't the only ones driven to act unfavorably by hormone fluctuations. Imagine the massive disorder diagnosis upswing if only testosterone poisoning were A Thing. Every time a guy punches a wall because he missed a layup? Road rage, chair throwings, gang skirmishes, fraternity hazing gone tragic? Every war, ever?
